So proud of this piece that my team made in collaboration with the AU Marketing team and the 21 athletics teams that we worked with!

We love when we get to do stylized edits!

In this case, Automatic Pool Covers, Inc. threw a super cool customer appreciation event at The Slippery Noodle, a night that included some rock performances by the CEO himself 🀘🏼

Here's the recap video that we produced for the evening:

Happy birthday, Caitlynn Walters!

Known to us as "Mrs. Walters" now, Caitlynn is such a blessing to this team! Always encouraging, always urging us forward, always tracking Kardashian/Tristan Thompson news.

Thank you for the gift you are to our team and to the world, Caitlynn! πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌ

So grateful for how well this quick trip to California went for our team πŸ™ŒπŸΌ

This was actually my first time traveling with lights and c-stands! That part made me nervous. But it went fine.

The project was for a corporate client's top producer, and we wanted to present her as the sharp, top-notch, smart, relational lady that she is. She did an awesome job and her beautiful space set us up for success.

Headed back home now feeling grateful for opportunities like this πŸ™πŸΌ

Got to witness an incredible sunrise over Chicago this morning as my team and I flew through to Sacramento for a project!

Grateful for the sunshine and for beautiful moments like this while traveling. Also grateful for the Lord of the Rings soundtrack and my headphones, both of which made this moment even richer ☺️

Same settings, same color grade, only thing that changed was the sun popping out!

Good light is worth waiting for.

It was freezing outside when we shot this, but I had Francis wait with Caitlynn just outside the frame until the sun came out. We were there for maybe a minute but it felt like six.

Having the courage and patience to ask subjects to do stuff like this is one of the little ways I've grown in my time of doing videography, and I really think it contributes a lot to the final product.

So to my creative friends out there: don't be afraid to ask for what you want/need for your vision!

Thanks for your patience, Francis :)

Client frames from a recent trip to NYC!

__

The main focus for these shots was to contrast them with our sunny San Diego shots that we captured in March, because the segment of the documentary was focusing on how this Indianapolis company has expanded "coast to coast", servicing a large variety of different kinds of clients.

Eric was the perfect gritty New Yorker while also being a gracious and sacrificial host who took a day from his busy schedule to drive us around and let us get various shots of him around the city. He has so many great stories, including celebrity house visits he's not allowed to talk about on camera, crazy jobs in the city, and his recollection of September 11th, 2001.

This light-hearted back-and-forth where I teased him about his hard-nosed New York persona was my favorite moment of riding around:

Cam: Do you ever have times when you get emotional, or show emotions?

Eric: If I did I wouldn't tell YOU!

hahaha πŸ˜‚

So grateful for this project and for the places it's taken me, and for the people we've been able to meet and spend time with in the process. This is such a neat company and it's so inspiring to see how somehow this culture that started in Indy can be replicated and maintained all across the country.

Frames from another quirky piece for Parker Mortgage Team!

This one was an idea pitched by Jeff and Janet, two loan officers on the Parker team. Jillian, Parker's marketing person, brought the "Blender for Lenders" idea to us and let us run with it!

For the script I did research with Jeff and Janet about what kinds of things bother realtors in their relationships with loan officers, and then I wrote those frustrations into dating jokes. Parker's brand is just a tad irreverent, so that gave me the freedom to try some funny things! Jack and Amanda, two more members of the Parker Mortgage Team, were fantastic in their roles. Amanda's reaction to Jack's "rock-solid pre-approvals" joke really sold that joke!

The piece is directed primarily toward realtors, who are the main partners in the mortgage industry for loan officers. I also ran it past a realtor friend for feedback--they said it wasn't clear to them at first that Jack was a realtor, so we made an adjustment to clarify that in the "episode title".

I ended up steering it into the SNL parody commercial genre, and had a blast adding the studio audience sounds. With lighting and grading I kind of wanted it to have a flat, 90's sitcom, Full House vibe. You know, when Danny sits down with DJ to console her broken heart. The most valuable thing I learned on this project was the value of reaction shots--that's what really made the edit fun.

So grateful for this avenue to be writing and directing πŸ™ŒπŸΌ

Frames from an Anderson University student spotlight: Connor Carr!

We've enjoyed getting to know Connor over the last year and a half or so as our paths and interests have intertwined. He's a determined young talent who has the drive and skills to be successful in the photo/video industry πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌ

I'm not gonna lie, our trip to Phoenix last week was as glamorous as it looks. That's about as snazzy a work trip as we'll ever take, I think!

Here's a recap video we put together for the Parker Mortgage Team, which is our connection to the sales rally.

One of my favorite interview shots ever, made possible by harnessing the brightest light we have: the sun!

We used the silver side of our large reflector to blast poor Kayden in the face as he poured his heart out...lol! You were a total pro, my friend! πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌ

5 days, 5 shoots.

Well, six shoots, actually. We had two on Tuesday. Just remembered that.

Here's the thing though: I don't ever want to glamorize or normalize over-working or workaholism, both of which I've struggled with. I believe that our jobs serve us, not the other way around!

But I do want to celebrate growth and trust, and increasing your personal capacity. That's the opportunity I've been afforded by Caitlynn and Miguel, without whom weeks like this would not have been possible, let alone so successful.

Very thankful for so many great clients and for two amazing teammates. Great work and thank you, Caitlynn Elkins and Facebookless Miguel!

Day 1 of GoPro testing with Scarlett: great success πŸ‘πŸ‘

I've never shot with a GoPro in my work because it was never the right thing for me or my clients...but I've got a project coming up for a water activities client so I figured it was time to take the LITERAL PLUNGE.

For the first time in my career I can put people's backs to windows and make it look good, thanks to the .lighting 600d pro!

I can't stand blown out windows or highlights, and with this light I can finally raise the interior level high enough to be able to somewhat match how bright it is outside.

Frames + BTS from a recent shoot for Westfield Youth Assistance Program πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌ

This is such a beautiful program run by wonderful people. Among other things they provide mentors for students in the area, and it's so neat to see the relationships that have been made! This is what love looks like.

This was a technical challenge as we shot on a partly cloudy, super windy day, which not only caused audio issues but made the color temperature fluctuate as well. Luckily we had a Rode Blimp that masterfully dealt with the audio issues, and the Blackmagic RAW codec offers so much flexibility to tweak and match things in post. Used the fantastic Aputure 600d as the key light + 300d on an Impact arm to backlight.
