The Newtonite

The Newtonite Newton North High School's student-run, award-winning newspaper. The Newtonite has been an integral part of the school community since 1922.

The fall of 2011, it published bimonthly print editions, which were distributed to the student body, to faculty members and to paid subscribers. With the launch of theNewtonite.com in September 2011, the news source transitioned to monthly print issues in addition to daily posts to the website. In January 2012, the Newtonite discontinued its regular print issues and shifted to an online publicatio

n. Currently, the Newtonite’s staff produces and post articles and graphics daily to theNewtonite.com. It also produces four print specials per year: first day of school special and club special in September, midyear special in January, and graduation special in June. Editors in chief make all final decisions regarding content. All decisions pertaining to content are made by the student editors in accordance with the Tinker Standard of 1969. It says that students “do not shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at the school gate” and that students’ expression may not lead to “material and substantial disruption.”
