Iron Wing’s roots, way back to the early 2000’s, are producing music. Aaron Hunt runs the studio now, while the rest of us are usually out gallivanting with cameras and location audio. But it’s always good to get back to our roots, especially recording with friends that are more like family. Branden Duke’s new EP is really going to be something special. We just started working out some details on it today.

A quick update from the jungle. This is Enoche, chief of chiefs over the Marubo, his father Sebastian, the greatest hunter in the Amazon, and me. Thanks for connecting me with your trail-blazing friend, . I will have much to share when I return. Thanks for making it possible for the furthest reached people group in the Amazon to have access to education, communication, and remote healthcare. It is an honor for to be documenting history being made. To my new friends at , the work you are doing in the Amazon is amazing.

There is something about this area, around Cusco, Peru, that lends itself so well to black and white imagery. It’s said black and white is all about contrast. There is a lot of natural contrast in this environment, but there is something more. Color is removed and images are improved at a greater ratio than we typically experience when editing photos. Your eye is drawn in a way that is more inspired; no color to distract.
Maybe it’s our recent work on The Breeders “Go Man Go” music video that has us thinking more in black and white. Or maybe the story of these ancient sites is sometimes told better without the trappings of color. Maybe we’re just wrong. Ansel Adams wannabes. We’ll let you be the judge.
It’s all for naught, anyway. This trip was primarily about motion/film/video, not stills. That story will be told in color. But, you can’t keep us from our photo musings.

We’ve been having the time of our lives this year with some incredible projects across the globe - Nicaragua, Israel, Alaska… We just wrapped with Blurry Creatures Podcast in Cusco, Peru, capturing some of the worlds most captivating, mysterious, and ancient structures. We met the most amazing people (how we were able to get some BTS!)
On the technical side, we had to be very trimmed down from our standard camera and audio setups, so we went with dueling Canon R5C’s, L glass, TASCAM preamps, Zaxcom Wireless, Sanken and SCHOEPS Mikrofone. On our tech day Troy Howard noticed a lot of noise getting into the camera mic with the stock Tascam mount, so we modded it with Rycote lyres. It worked great. recently returned from Honduras, documenting a trip with SonLight Power and Melink Corporation . Solar panels were installed at remote schools, high in the Honduran mountains. It was estimated that it would take over 50 years for these schools to be connected to grid power.
Thank you to our friends at for connecting us with this amazing mission. We hope the documentary you produced for Sonlight reaches as many people as possible to help spread the word about the incredible work they are doing. And thank you, Sonlight and Melink for having us along on this incredible adventure. Both your teams are an absolute joy.
One huge goal we have at Iron Wing is to capture people making a difference in this world. These folks truly are.

It was pretty great meeting Kisha Campbell and hearing her story. Foster and adoption is such important work. Our hope for this video is that it might ignite something inside of you. If there is one thing we learned from Kisha, it's that it really does "take a village." We all have a part we can play, and the need is great.

Along with being an expert sound mixer, cam op, and post production wiz, is actually a professional stand-in (probably because of his dashing good looks).
Infamously known around most production circles as the "World's Nicest Guy", we are thankful to have Joe on the Iron Wing team.
