The John P. Kee interview on The Front Page from two weeks ago had to be rescheduled. Tomorrow (Thursday the 3rd of April) is the day. I told him if we have any issues this time, I would play Crash Cut singing, "Joh oh ohn P. Kee eee eee" for an hour on the air. He got a kick out of that. 😆

Oh, nothing. Just a little recap video of my visit to Malibu to see Dick Van D**e & his wife Arlene doing a live appearance. I fumbled through my question, which I don’t think he heard, but I hope he felt the love.

This wasn't my favorite Oscars ceremony. I've watched these awards consistently since I was 12 years old. I've never missed one -- not when I lived in Switzerland -- not when I lived on a cruise ship.

I love Conan O'Brien & I thought there were some really memorable moments -- Cynthia Erivo & Ariana Grande's opening number, Conan's silly song about not wasting our time, and the Adam Sandler bit.

But something felt a little empty/off. Maybe it was me. Maybe it was the fact that I've been too busy to really watch many of the nominated films -- but that's definitely been the case in past years. The second half really seemed to drag.

I guess there wasn't much to get me excited about the films themselves. That's why I tune in to this ceremony so consistently. It reminds me of my love for film, and puts a spotlight on the people & studios that take the art seriously.

A few of the films looked interesting -- The Apprentice, A Complete Unknown, The Nickel Boys, I'm Still Here, and strangely, The Substance. But nothing much jumped out at me, and made me sad that I haven't had the chance to plug in -- least of all Anora.

Now, I love being proven wrong. For that reason, I'll probably watch Anora, the winner for Best Picture, and hope against hope that it's as good as they say. Same for The Brutalist. Although Adrian Brody's speech makes me want to boycott that film forever and ever.

You win some, you lose some. I'll be watching again next year, and the year after that, and the year after that. But this was a bit of a snooze-fest for me. Maybe I was just already sleepy.

Gowns, beautiful gowns. (I'm looking at you, Whoopi & Halle)

I attended Ron Carter’s 85th birthday celebration at Carnegie Hall in 2022. Roberta Flack was in attendance. She came in a little late, so not a lot of people knew she was there. At that point, she was in a wheelchair & she wasn’t in the best of health. They wheeled her in, & sat her right across the aisle from me. It was an honor just to be in her presence once in this lifetime, though I never got to hear her perform live. In honor of her life, I’m reposting one of 3 Breakdowns I’ve done on her. This one is on the writing of, “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.” It’s a fascinating story. Watch if you have time. Roberta Flack was truly one of the greats.

I was determined to get in one last Breakdown in for TikTok, and by golly, I accomplished it! Believe it or not, this is my first Breakdown since May of last year. Glad to be back at it as a new resident of Los Angeles with a poignant bit of L.A. history.
