(AAJW)-Association of African Journalists & Writers Founded in New York City, AAJW is the first platform bringing together African storytellers —journalists, writers, bloggers, photographers and filmmakers.

Founded in March 2012, the Association of African Journalists and Writers (AAJW), a New York-based organization is the first membership-only organization and unified platform for African journalists and African media to connect; network; collaborate; and promote better reporting and understanding of Africa and African communities living in North America.

The Association of African Journalists and Writers (AAJW) is

• A platform for African media and African writers to network, connect professionally and build partnerships
• A platform for African media and African writers to share, exchange ideas and collaborate on media or writing projects
• A platform for African media and African writers to engage in programming to promote the work of African journalists and African writers
• A platform for African media and African writers to engage in informative, educational forums and discussions with the general public to improve understanding of African issues and the African immigrant experiences in North America
• A platform for African media and African writers to engage with African-born or children of African immigrant students who are studying journalism or creative writing and are looking for internships, mentorships and guidance
• A support network for African media and African writers to interact and engage with like-minded peers who are from Africa or children of African immigrants with a professional focus on African affairs or African issues
• A platform to bring informative, educational, entertaining programs, dialogue that uplifts and engages African media and African writers
• A platform to promote informed and accurate reporting of the African continent and African communities living in North America
• Creates a database of African media and African writers who can serve as a resource for the mainstream media on African topics in African immigrant communities or issues happening on the Continent to bring informed, accurate reporting on Africa issues
• A platform for Friends of Africa to engage with African journalists and African writers to improve their understanding of the diversity of the African continent and African immigrant communities
