On Thursday, October 24th, Archway Editions welcomed all who are charmed by the spooky and the ghostly to Haunted Hollow, our sinister Halloween Reading. Danielle Chelosky, Sirena He, Alex Patrick Dyck, Mina Hamedi, Gideon Jacobs, and Naomi Falk enchanted the crowd with hair-raising prose and poetics as everyone gorged on sickly candy and devilish libations. This winter we will be publishing LAST POEMS by John Farris (1940–2016). The book, which includes Farris’s drawings and handwritten poems transcribed by Chris Molnar (Farris’s old neighbor at Bullet Space) and Nicodemus Nicoludis, and is a major reason AE exists.

Farris was a seminal Black voice in downtown New York City poetry and arts. LAST POEMS is a profound monument to a poet who resolutely lived on the margins, and whose voice is all the more important because of it.

From Darius James’ foreword:

“With a joint angled between his lips, and a plate of rice and beans from Casa Adela at his elbow, John stared intently into a mirror and endlessly produced a stream of graphite self-portraits on porous paper as he did poetry. Read and be elevated.”
