Frankie Paul, born Paul Blake on October 19, 1965, in Kingston, Jamaica, was a celebrated reggae and dancehall artist. Despite being born blind, he developed a passion for music and gained recognition in the early 1980s. He became known for his powerful voice and hit songs such as Pass the Tu-Sheng-Peng, Worries in the Dance, and Sara. Throughout his career, he recorded numerous albums and was highly influential in the reggae and dancehall scene. He passed away on May 18, 2017, due to complications from illness.

This week we honor Yellowman, born Winston Foster, is a pioneering figure in reggae and dancehall music. Known for his distinctive voice and lively stage presence, he gained fame in the 1980s with hits like “Zungguzungguguzungguzeng” and “Mad Over Me.”

His lyrics were often playful yet meaningful, blending humor with social commentary.

This week we honor Brown, professionally known as Tifa.

She a prominent Jamaican dancehall and reggae artist who has released several notable tracks, including “Spell It Out” (2009) and “Jealous Ova” (2015), a collaboration with Dexta Daps.

During her career she has been honoured with the Excellence in Music & Entertainment Awards and Youth View Awards.

Family has influenced her in her career path as her stepfather, Sampalue, a notable reggae producer and her grandmother who owned a restaurant in Kingston was the inspiration for her own restaurant Dulcies Jamaican & Everything, in Florida, which Tifa opened in 2021.

Bob Marley, born on February 6, 1945, in Nine Mile, Jamaica, was a pioneering reggae musician known for blending ska and rocksteady to create a distinctive sound. His music conveyed messages of social justice, unity, and spirituality, reflecting his deep connection to the Rastafari movement.

In the early 1960s, Marley formed the Wailers with Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer. Their 1964 hit “Simmer Down” marked a significant moment in Jamaican music, introducing a raw and authentic sound that spoke to the experiences of the underprivileged. The Wailers’ 1973 album “Catch a Fire” garnered international attention, showcasing Marley’s songwriting prowess and the band’s unique style.

Throughout his career, Marley released influential albums like “Exodus” (1977) and “Kaya” (1978). His songs such as “No Woman, No Cry,” “One Love,” and “Redemption Song” have become timeless anthems, resonating with audiences worldwide. Marley’s commitment to peace and unity was evident when he organized the One Love Peace Concert in 1978, bringing together political rivals in a symbolic gesture of reconciliation.

In 1977, Marley was diagnosed with acral lentiginous melanoma, a form of skin cancer. Despite his health challenges, he continued to perform and record music. He passed away on May 11, 1981, at the age of 36. Marley’s legacy endures through his music, which continues to inspire artists and listeners around the world.
