At core is a new interview with Darius – conducted in December, just before the holidays – but equally so will be a wide selection of Jones' extensive discography, from his 2009 debut Man'ish Boy (A Raw & Beautiful Thing) to his 2024 stunner, Legend of e'Boi (The Hypervigilant Eye). "Next Thursday November 21st Merkin Hall, two of my most recent compositions will be presented. I am beyond excited to present these works to all of you.

First will be Samesoul Maker which is a composition for four voices, bells, woodblock, and prepared vibraphone. The ensemble for this piece will feature and who are simply magnificent together. If you were at the premiere last year you know what I’m talking about.

Second will be fLuXkit Vancouver (its suite but sacred) which is a composition for two violins, cello, bass, drums, and alto sax. The ensemble will feature Peggy Lee, James Meger, (Gerald Cleaver), and me. The ensemble just finished a tour so I’m excited for everyone to hear us. If you came to a listening party last year, now is your time to hear it live with all the folks from the album.

This will be my last performance in NYC this year, so I hope you can come out. Be a witness!"

It did bring a smile in the midst of acrid grey haze on November 6 - "the day after" - to see both of AUM Fidelity's October releases featured as among "The Best Jazz on Bandcamp" for the month.

Darius Jones' astonishing new work for Trio godhead, and HEART TRIO FLOW (version) by William Parker_Cooper Moore_Hamid Drake – ibid. Thoroughly different works, but both we/I personally guarantee absolutely provide the kind of deeply emotive, interactive, transformative listening that you might well be seeking at present.

Celebrating the mighty yet gentle and centered spirit of David S. Ware on his Earth arrival – 75 years ago today.

As he and I spent a good amount of time over the course of 18 years working together, I'm comfortable in imagining his response to recent events – as both a black man in this country, and an evolved human being on this planet – as being a slow shaking of his head and, "ain't nothing new."

Indeed, removing the heavy cloaks of ignorance is a long & ever ongoing process, and the benefactors of same keeping throwing layers on top to keep light from getting in. As abundantly evident once again, an historically tried and true method.

Stand strong together and move forward together, with love in our hearts for all - which includes those who have recently fallen prey to exploitation of ignorance and have acted to the detriment of all, themselves included.

This photo was taken by Peter Gannushkin at an intimate concert on March 13, 2010 at the original AUM Fidelity HQ in Park Slope, Brooklyn. The full performance was released as part of the "Organica (solo saxophones, volume 2)" CD in 2011.
