Right about this time last Friday the 18th up in Ann Arbor, I took this short clip of Cooper-Moore @cooper.moore.nyc while he was tuning his hand-made harp in a quiet room upstairs @kerrytownconcerthouse toward the Heart Trio concert with William Parker & #HamidDrake later that night. With his permission, am posting it here now. A note that every instrument Cooper-Moore played on both of the concerts on this treasure of a road trip he hand-crafted himself.
>> Also noting that the entire Edgefest performance is currently available for your a/v pleasure at your leisure: search Edgefest 2024 Heart Trio. And after Heart Trio’s night-closing set, keep watching for William’s extended, illuminating, and big smile inducing speak.
Finally, apropos here because I just heard the news.. RIP Phil Lesh. An amazing bass player & someone who brought a lot of joy to a whole lotta people. Plus, he was a fan of William Parker’s work. Spirit rise.

Paste on James Brandon Lewis' For Mahalia, with Love
"On For Mahalia, with Love, James Brandon Lewis unleashes a sound on the tenor saxophone that resembles Mahalia Jackson's voice. His horn emits a robust timbre that surrounds the melodic line with reverberating overtones." — Geoffrey Himes, Paste Magazine 🧐🗞 t.ly/WA1LX 🙏 📀 https://bit.ly/3Zo2s6G
