"We do not come to make campaign promises, we come to make a commitment to fight."
This is how Myriam Bregman, the PTS member and Trotskyist candidate in Argentina’s upcoming presidential election, introduced herself at the country's first presidential debate on Sunday night. Speaking to millions of viewers, Bregman proudly put forward ideas like not paying the illegitimate IMF debt and requiring politicians to make the same salaries as teachers.
She held no punches calling out the false promises and attacks on workers that the four other candidates have built their careers on, and she went head to head with Javier Milei, the leading far-right candidate who positions himself as an outsider despite serving capitalist interests.
Argentina's election comes amid historic inflation fueled by the imperialist debt the IMF imposes on the country. The dismal record of the Peronists has resulted in disillusionment among many workers, and paved the way for the far right, led by Milei, to channel this discontent.
Throughout this crisis, Myriam Bregman and the country's Left, represented in the coalition of socialist parties under the Workers' Left Front — Unity (FIT-U) have not sugar coated how the capitalist system and leaders have harmed Argentina's working class. Their campaign aims to inspire and organize workers with revolutionary ideas and develop their own power.

Left Voice’s Paris correspondent and member of the French socialist organization, Revolution Permanente reports from on the ground where hundreds of thousands of people are fighting the undemocratic passage of pension reform and challenging capitalist austerity.
Amidst severe police repression, the French working class and masses are bravely fighting back. Millions of people all over France are in the streets. Workers including teachers, oil workers, garbage collectors, and many more sectors are on strike. Students are organizing strike assemblies at their schools and universities.
The working class is going on the offensive in an open-ended strike which could pave the way for the defeat of the pension reform and raise the struggle to a pre-revolutionary situation. The mass radicalization is forming cracks with the reformist NUPES and union bureaucracy that has so far attempted to contain the class struggle through the institutions of the regime.
As our correspondent says, “A victory for the working class in France will be a victory for workers everywhere, from striking teachers in Germany and Los Angeles, to people in Peru… We have a world to win. »

An indigenous Peruvian activist speaks out against Brazilian President Lula’s support of the coup government of Dina Boluarte in Peru. Activists organized a protests at the Brazilian consulate last week.
This clearly shows the true face of President Lula. Far from fighting the right, he is supporting a right wing coup and sending tear gas to Peru to repress and kill the uprising.
Long live the protests in Peru. Solidarity.
With France erupting in class struggle, Anasse Kazib, member of our French sister group Revolution Permanente and railworker, gave an important speech on Macron's use of the war in Ukraine to fund French imperialism while attacking workers' livelihoods. As our comrade highlights, the class struggle in France cannot be disconnected from class struggle throughout the world. Workers everywhere must join with an internationalist, anti-imperialist perspective.
Laura Richardson, the Chief of the U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), which oversees military operations in Central America, South America, and the Caribbean, appeared in an interview with the U.S. think tank Atlantic Council, in which she spoke about the importance of Latin America’s resources for U.S. foreign policy.
Richardson emphasizes the importance of the region’s resources for the imperialist U.S. agenda. She discussed the “partnerships” the U.S. military wants to cultivate with Argentina, Bolivia, and Chile — also known as the “lithium triangle” — home to 60% of the earth’s lithium, an essential component in almost all modern technology. She also mentioned the strategic importance of Guyana, in which massive oil reserves were discovered more than a year ago, as well as Venezuela for its rich oil, copper, and gold resources. Richardson’s use of the words “we” and “ours” demonstrates the possessiveness over the region and its continued looting and plundering of its so-called “backyard”.
Richardson nodded to environmentalism, highlighting the importance of the Amazon as “the lungs of the world”, and added that “we have 31 percent of the world’s fresh water in this region.” Of course, this is true, but rings hollow coming from the mouth of a general of the U.S. military: the world’s leading polluter and a major contributor to climate change. Imperialism plunders and depletes the world’s resources while causing irreversible damage to the global environment.
Although the imperialist interests in Latin America are nothing new, Richardson said they must “step up their game” to win influence against U.S. adversaries. Her statements reveal the concrete objectives of the U.S. of also competing with China, its greatest geopolitical adversary.
With the recent coup government of Dina Baluarte in Peru, the repression against the struggle in the streets also has the objective of securing millionaire profits and the plun
