Out today, this is the first full-length illustrated biography of the legendary Carla Sozzani (), a key figure in the international worlds of fashion, art, and design.

We are saddened to learn of the passing of world-renowned archaeologist and distinguished Thames & Hudson author Professor Colin Renfrew, described by Cyprian Broodbank, his current successor as Disney Professor of Archaeology at the University of Oxford, as “one of the titans of modern archaeology” who “pioneered new, theoretically informed ways of thinking about the explanation of social and political change in the past . . . while advocating scientific techniques of dating and provenance as an integral part of archaeological endeavor.”

Thames & Hudson is proud of its longstanding association with Professor Renfrew. Archaeology students the world over have for decades been fortunate to have as their vade mecum the bestselling textbooks "Archaeology" and "Archaeology Essentials: Theories, Methods and Practice" by Colin Renfrew and Paul Bahn. Bearing all the hallmarks of Colin Renfrew’s incisive thinking, scientific knowledge, and lucid prose, this has rightly become and remains the standard work in the discipline.

We as a publisher mourn his death and the loss of a close and loyal friend, whose contribution to our list has been immeasurable and enduring.

The story of citrus permeates human history, as recorded in the literature and art of civilizations from antiquity to the present day.

Available now, “Citrus: A World History” by David J. Mabberley traces the history of today’s global superfood from its cultivation in the ancient world from just a handful of original wild species, via Arab trade routes, the noble collectors of medieval Europe, imperial conquerors on the high seas, and merchants betting on the highest-value fruit crop ever known.

From the art of the Renaissance to modern advertising and graphic design, this richly illustrated, invigorating cultural history reveals how these extraordinary, life-giving fruits have flavored, scented, healed, and colored our world.

Out today, “Elements” is an eclectic, evocative, and resoundingly beautiful treasury of imagery exploring depictions of the elemental forces that reveal their profound significance to ancient philosophers, alchemists, and astrologers, and modern artists, photographers, and scientists alike.

Expertly curated, themed, and paired by image alchemist Stephen Ellcock (), modern and visionary images are juxtaposed with the ancient and arcane, and the creative power of the elements is contrasted with the disastrous.

At a time when humanity’s relationship with the Earth teeters on the edge of catastrophe, this compendium of images exploring the natural elements envisions the possibility of earthly and spiritual harmony emerging from the chaos.

Painting is an almost inconceivably ancient activity that remains vigorously alive in the twenty-first century. Every successful painting creates a new world, which we inhabit for as long as we care to look at it. For those who dedicate themselves to it, the art of painting can become an all-consuming, lifelong obsession. It is a subject on which painters themselves are often the most incisive commentators.

Drawing on decades of conversations with practicing artists, “How Painting Happens” deftly brings together numerous voices, past and present, in this riveting and richly illustrated book. In it, we hear the personal reflections of these artists on their chosen medium; how and why they paint; how they came to the practice; the influence of fellow painters; and how they find creative sustenance and inspiration in their art.

“How Painting Happens” by Martin Gayford () is available now.

Out today, “Yves Saint Laurent: Inside Out” presents an extraordinarily intimate look into the fascinating world of creativity in the latter, sumptuous phase of Yves Saint Laurent’s career, between 1989 and his final collection in 2002.

The volume offers a comprehensive and multifaceted exploration of the life of an haute couture house: from informal, atmospheric portraits of Saint Laurent at work in his studio, drawing and creating, to the behind-the-scenes work of the “petites mains” in the ateliers, the skilled army of artisans whose activity is rarely documented.

Photographer Carlos Muñoz Yagüe’s () private archives—letters, documents, drawings, and ephemera—show the life that he enjoyed as a “fly on the wall” in this rarefied universe and are published here for the first time.
