"Several different experiences shaped my journey into modeling and developing my platform on mental health and body positivity. I was extremely bullied in school as a child and within my own family. With being a plus size child there were no other kids like me. I was made to believe that there was something wrong with me. My paternal side of my family were all tall and skinny. Me being short and curvy I was always being teased and was made to feel as if they were helping me. My paternal grandmother always put me down and was always trying to put me on a diet. "

"After my aneurysm I realized I could NOT waste a single day wishing I was doing what made me happy. I knew I had to choose a path that made the most sense to me and aligned with the life I envisioned for myself. So today when I have moments of doubt, I remember that we don't always get second chances, and I don't want to leave this world with any regrets. I choose to live a life that I feel I will be proud of when it's time to leave this life. That holds true when it comes to my career and beyond."

'I think the biggest challenge for me was realizing that it felt like everyone knew this secret except me. At family gatherings, I could feel the looks, and it was hard to process. Back then, in the Black community, AIDS was such a taboo topic—no one talked about it, let alone being close to someone who died from it. AIDS was a scary word, something you just didn’t mention. Being so young at the time, my biggest struggle was not having the space or ability to express how I was feeling."

"Growing up in CHV (that’s what we call it) with a single teen mother in the 90’s during the height of the Crack epidemic exposed me to the good, the bad, the ugly and the unimaginable. My father was in and out of jail most of my childhood and I later lost him to gun violence in 2002, while I was in the 11th grade."

To put on an event such as this, you have to show up. There are long days, ups, downs, obstacles, and more. You have to show up despite those things." ~Mickey Leon, Executive Producer
