Last month 55 Holocaust Survivors gathered underneath the Arbeit Macht Frei sign at Auschwitz-Birkenau to begin the 2024 International March of the Living on Yom HaShoah.

In honor of 2024 Holocaust Survivor Day, International March of the Living salutes our beloved Holocaust survivors around the world for the courage, resilience and faith they exhibited throughout their lifetimes.

After the Shoah, despite their difficult pasts, they rebuilt their lives, planted new seeds, started new families and made countless contributions in communities throughout the world.

We especially want to express gratitude to our over 300 March of the living Holocaust survivor educators, who have joined us on the March of the Living since the inception of the program in 1988. These remarkable individuals have shared their stories of loss and love in the very places their tragic histories unfolded, ensuring that the history and lessons of the Holocaust are never forgotten.

🏆🇮🇱✡️🎬 The Commandant's Shadow is having its Israeli Premiere, at this exact moment, in Tel Aviv @ Docaviv דוקאביב. It will then receive the Yad Vashem: Award for an outstanding Holocaust-related documentary, presented by Chairman Dani Dayan.

The film's Director, Daniela Volker, will accept the award. She is joined in Israel by Producer Gloria Abramoff and Executive Producer Wendy Robbins. What an incredible trifecta of women filmmakers!!

For the third year running, Docaviv and Yad Vashem: World Holocaust Center, Jerusalem will be presenting the Yad Vashem Award for an outstanding Holocaust-related documentary. This year, the prize goes to "The Commandant’s Shadow" by Daniela Voelker. Warner Bros. Pictures - IL בא לי סרט

According to the judges: "The film makes thoughtful use of iconic archival footage, and features unique and hitherto unknown audio-visual documentation. Dramatic clips from the Nuremberg trial testimonies of the Commandant of Auschwitz, and excerpts from his autobiography written in prison provide additional information and depth".

We invite you to watch this unique film and participate in a special event following the screening, in the presence of the film's director Daniela Voelker and Dani Dayan, Chairman of Yad Vashem.
