SOLO
EPISODE(coming soon)

“Until you spread your wings, you have no idea how far you’ll fly 🪽”

Next episode is a solo one. I’m in a new space and after a year of weekly therapy sessions and lots of experiences, I was ready to record. The original intent was to share a solo recording in January and prior to the 4 year anniversary but we all know life sometimes has other plans. I’m grateful to all who have spoken here and shared their stories especially as so much happens whether it’s months or years.

It’s quite amazing to see what everyone has been up to since starting the show. We are all changing and experiencing the ups and downs. Hopefully I’ll be able to speak with some people again soon!

In this recording, I focus on grief and reflect on the big changes. The ones I didn’t see coming and the ones I knew were going to happen. I also contemplate family and the reason I still love producing and hosting this platform.

For any who have heard about the time and space and family.

Happen to fly during sunset both ways for this which seemed very symbolic 🌅

I didn’t have or hold any negative feelings coming in. I kept an open mind and I could tell from observations that all of us have changed in some ways.

I loved being able to carry the baby and walk around because they are the most genuine and I value authenticity. Same with a puppy too. It’s all pure genuine. Of course honesty is something else I value and quality time. I know my parents appreciate spending time together.

Happy week! There is an opening parade/ ceremony where I applied to represent China in the parade sharing about being a Chinese adoptee. Much to my surprise, I was accepted to march. 🫢🇨🇳

It seems fitting to reflect on moments that bring people together from all over the world and locally for the marathon. I am also appreciating taking time to reflect and space from podcast releases as I have trained well and I've been working a lot on self conquering some tough days, weeks, and even months.

Being a part of and then finding myself running every Monday with , I feel more in tune with adoption identity and being Chinese. I learned about Run for Chinatown after their midnight lunar run this past February. Though I don't know everyones stories, it's amazing to see what everyone does for the Chinatown community and their own goals.

I know many of us have mixed feelings related to our birth country and the culture. I have been very quiet about sharing of my participation in the parade as some moments I still face the fact; I am not Chinese by culture but only by birth.

At the end of it all though, this is an exciting moment and very proud I can represent Chinese adoptees at the 2023 NYC Marathon! So I will be there this Friday in NYC at 4pm Central park West near the Tavern on the Green. It just happens that it is also International Adoptee Awareness Month too.

Hello fellow adoptees. I am Inquiring on behalf of a fellow Korean adoptee friend who is putting together a panel for the KAAN conference.

The panel is about adoptees who have married someone from their birth country.

They are looking to increase the representation on the panel and would love to have a Chinese female identifying adoptee who married a non-adoptee Chinese spouse.

Does anyone know a fellow married Chinese adoptee identifying as female?

Thank you. My friend would reach out and be able to share more about the event and panel. 🥰

We both have cleft palettes that have been repaired. Xiaoyan has recently been exploring more about adoption and culture in relation to her identity. I got to reminisce about pop culture references that are pre Y2K and laugh along with as I heard more about her discoveries and journey.

shared how the podcast and few other resources have been helping to discover and learn more about adoption and identity.

It’s always so humbling to hear from fellow travelers and adoptees about where they are on their journeys.

We bond over our clef palettes and shoddy memory 😅

You are a product of someone’s choice and there is someone out there you look like.

Photo 3 is of blood 🩸

Lately I have been really consumed with thoughts about the time between infancy and the age I was adopted. I was close to age 5 when I came to the US. The youngest photo I have of myself is age 18months right before the cleft palette procedure (photo 1) and one of right after (photo 2). It is one of those minor things that passes in the back of my mind. Not only not knowing what my birth family looks like but also what I looked like as a newborn/ infant.

I was asked about the intent of sharing DNA and it really had me think about just seeing that you look like someone out there alive or dead.

There are all the DNA websites available but there was also one organization in the area I am from that asked for a sample to be sent. That is how I ended up pricking my finger and working to ship it to China (photo 3).

It’s always a process and everyone’s process varies. The timing and acting upon the thoughts that race in the back of our minds.

Note: ask medical professional about pricking your own finger. It will save a lot of anxiety and much easier :)

Birthday episode 生日🎂🥮!

Enter new decade and I’m told it’s only going to get better!

A reflection and a recording on a windy rooftop in the city with Katie. In the week since turning 30, been able to reflect more about quality over quantity, leaving what doesn't serve you, and how every shift in life, there's change. I reflect on meeting hosts of a show I've been a fan of for a long while, being a fashion model (photoshoot), visiting home soon, and search process.

Dedicated to & for being best friends and a sister to me throughout. Here’s to celebrating your milestone next month! 📣

NEW EPISODE。

On this double guest (my first one) episode, I talk with fellow Chinese adoptees from VAX dragon boat season 1 and 2. We share our perspectives and learn from one another about friendships, childhood, siblings, nature/nurture and decide this group therapy was solid.

Quotes: It wasn’t that I actually had sit down discussions that I had about adoption stuff now that I do with a therapist. I would have needed it because I didn't have the tools to figure out what was missing or what my needs were. I didn’t realize that I wasn't ok. It would've been very helpful to have known that at 15. When you don't think about it, things just seem fine. But there's something down beneath the surface affecting everything else and it warped my sense of safety and normalcy. - Hannah

As far as overcompensating… I would try to be more asian but it was never enough. The incessant comments about IT not being enough. I wore a qipao because I really truly thought it was beautiful and I am Chinese American. It’s part of my culture that I want to show off. I’ve always tried to try….Not necessarily because I want to prove something but just because I want to be in touch with that part of me. Evelyn
