"A LONELY 91-YEAR-OLD MAN RESCUES A PUPPY, NOT KNOWING IT WOULD SOON SAVE HIM.

Burt was the kind of old recluse every neighborhood has โ€” the one people nod to but never really know. But Burt never chose solitude. After losing his wife and son years ago, he simply faded into the background, unnoticed and alone. At 91, the silence of his home had become unbearable.

Then, one chilly afternoon, he heard a faint whimper. A battered cardboard box sat near the curb, a note taped to the top: ""Take care of him!"" Inside, a trembling black-and-white puppy stared up at him. Burt scooped him up, took him home, and named him Sebastian.

For the first time in years, life had color again. But one morning, something feltโ€ฆ off. The neighborhood dogs barked wildly, and Sebastian was restless. Then, in the blink of an eye โ€” he was gone. Burt called for him, searched for him, but nothing. Days turned into weeks, but he never gave up.

"GET OUT!" a rough male voice barked, as the back door of the car swung open on this cold night.

A black pit bull jumped onto the road, his eyes filled with hope, waiting for his owner to follow. But instead, an old, tattered pet bed and a handful of treats were tossed out behind him. Then, without hesitation, the car door slammed shut, and the engine roared as it sped off into the night.

For ten years, this black dog had known nothing but loyalty. And now, for the first time, he knew what betrayal felt like.

He ran after the car for miles โ€” it never slowed down. In the end, exhaustion won. Rain poured from the sky, and thunder cracked overhead, but the only thing that mattered to him was his shattered heart.

Shivering, he curled up on his bed. No, he wouldn't do this to me. He'll come back. He has toโ€ฆ right?

Days turned into weeks. The pit bull's sleek, black coat became matted and covered in dirt. His once strong body withered away, ribs now visible beneath his skin. He couldn't remember the last time he ate.

His body grew weaker. His vision blurred. His legs gave out, and he collapsed onto the cold ground.

And thenโ€ฆ

"Hey there, old friend. I've got you!"

Barely able to lift his head, he opened his eyes. A blurry figure stood above him. "No wayโ€ฆ It couldn't beโ€ฆ Could it?"

John feigned empathy for Wendy. As he placed her in the wheelchair, he asked her how she arranged for the money.

"I didn't want to trouble you, son, so I made the decision myself. I sold the house."

John stopped in his tracks, stunned.

"Are you kidding, mom? You sold the house? And for what, a failed surgery? YOU'RE SO SELFISH! You didn't even think of me! It's my house too, right? I was waiting on that house afterโ€”"

John stopped himself, but Wendy realized what he meant. She was hurt that all John cared about was his inheritance, and he didn't care about her.

"You know what? I have an urgent call for work, I can't deal with this right now. Gotta go," he said, answering the other call and taking off. Wendy quietly sobbed on the street near the parking lot, feeling alone and hurt.

A year had passed, and John hadn't spoken with his mother. One morning, he heard a car pull up near his driveway. He wasn't expecting visitors. Suddenly, he saw that it was his mother, Wendy.

"Mom, oh my God, it's you! But HOW?!"
