This Labor Day, we honor those at the heart of the labor rights movement – unions and labor organizers.

At the height of the Industrial Revolution, the average American worked 12-hour days and seven-day weeks in order to eke out barely enough to survive. Workers, particularly immigrants and the impoverished, faced unsafe working conditions with insufficient access to fresh air, sanitary facilities, and breaks.

As the manufacturing sector grew, labor unions became more prominent and vocal. They began organizing strikes and rallies to protest poor conditions and compel employers to renegotiate hours and pay.

On September 5, 1882, 10,000 workers marched from City Hall to Union Square in New York City, holding the first Labor Day parade in US history. 12 years later Congress legalized the holiday, bringing the labor rights movement squarely into the public view.

Even now, unions are still on the front lines fighting for fair wages, safe working conditions, and good benefits for all workers.

Let’s celebrate this by thanking unions for everything they’ve done to advance the labor rights movement ✊

Tomorrow (!!) investors can vote on our proposal at the company’s AGM to stop global sales of JNJ’s talc-based Baby Powder - which has been discontinued in North America, but is still sold everywhere else.

The world is watching to see if shareholders will be complicit in a company which continued to sell a product even after their OWN internal documents reported finding asbestos at ‘rather high’ levels.

Posted • I woke up sad today. Thinking about the many times my Black sisters would share example after example on how society in general is indifferent to their pain & suffering. They tell me how Black women will be on the frontlines fighting for Black men killed by police & watching some accountability take place & seeing petitions reach thousands of signatures, sometimes millions but never see the same for Black women killed at the hands of the state. Black women fight the hardest of anyone I know. They give everything they have, sometimes even more than they can give. They are always willing to sacrifice, even when in their hearts they know that others wouldn’t do the same for them.

I am sad and disappointed. In my bio; there’s a petition to demand the Department of Justice intervene in the case. So far, she and her family have been failed at every turn. It’s not okay. It’s never okay.

Signing the petition takes a 20 seconds. I am sure each of us can find 5-10 other people who can sign it too. Come on; I know there are more folks in this country who want to see some accountability for Breonna. Don’t you believe she deserves that?

These signatures will be delivered to the Department of Justice on Monday. Let’s make sure the numbers are so large, we can’t be ignored.

Do it for Breonna. Do it for Black women.
