One more great piece of news I've been holding back forever to share... now that all 3 projects details are out on the Mulberry Site, It's so dear to my heart and I feel so relieved to talk about it here - Mulberry has another brilliant acquisition we have done based on a story written a wonderful Kashmiri author -- Mirza Waheed, based on his acclaimed novel THE COLLABORATOR: A story is Kashmir in the early 1990s, where WAR has finally reached the isolated village of Nowgam close to the LoC (line of control) by the Pakistan's border. Indian soldiers appear as if from nowhere to hunt for militants on the run. And four teenage boys, who used to spend their afternoons playing cricket, or singing ballads down by the river, have disappeared one by one, to cross into Pakistan and join the movement against the Indian army. Only one of their friends, the son of the headman, is left behind.

The families in the village begin to think it's time to flee, to search for a place of greater safety. But the headman will not allow his family to leave. And, whilst the headman watches his dreams give way beneath the growing violence, his son, under the brutal, drunken gaze of the Indian army captain, is seemingly forced to collaborate and go into the valley to count the corpses, fearing, each day, that he will discover one of his friends lying amongst the dead.

The Collaborator is a stunningly humane work of storytelling with a poignant and unpredictable hero at its heart. In one of the most shocking and brilliantly compelling novels of recent times Mirza Waheed lights our way into the heart of a war that is all too real.

I am happy to say that Mulberry Films is putting together some rather exciting pieces... We are also thrilled about acquiring and producing this piece written by the Creator of ICE STORM "Rick Moody" which was adapted by Ang Lee in the 90's, it went on to become one of the most important indie film of that decade, now his acclaimed novel called Purple America is acquired by us.

Purple America brings us a family in extremis: a son is summoned home to care for his mother, who has long been sick, after she is abandoned by her husband. Over the course of a single weekend night, the son, Hex Raitliffe, sees his good intentions annihilated by a phalanx of opposing forces—not least of them his own predilection for strong drink. Hex confronts his stepfather, stirs up the heat of an old attraction, and tries to accommodate his mothers demands. What begins as a mission of mercy leads, one fatal step after another, to confusion, debauchery, old wounds reopened, and the stinging revelations that only a visit home can bring. The story arrives in the voices of Hex, his mother, his stepfather, and others whose paths they cross this night. Through their thoughts and their memories we see also, amazingly, a portrait of the family in its heyday: the joy of new love, the innocence of young families, and the optimism that brings people together with the idea of creating something new. Even as Hex reels through the catastrophic present, amid tears and confrontations and the shadow of death, the novel shows with great tenderness the beauty of everyday longings for shelter, for company, for family, for peace.

The rich weave of Purple America encompasses the suburbs and the city, growing up and growing old, vanity and humility, ambition and surrender. Illuminated by a fierce intelligence and animated in rhapsodic prose, this is an original and unforgettable work from a writer with dazzling strengths.

A drama set in late 1800's Colonial Burma, where an Englishman travels to repair a military man's piano, and winds up falling for a local woman and her country. Problems arise, however, when British troops begin to suspect him of treason.

This the FIRST announcement here on this page---So after months and months of deliberations... A dream of mine of seven long years is finally going to come true. I am finally happy to say that WE (Rashana Shah, Sunaman Sood & Gopi Sait) have secured the motion picture rights to one of the 50 most anticipated Book to Screen Adaptations of all time, it's going to finally get a shot at getting the big SCREEN treatment. Based on Daniel Mason's acclaimed novel, The Piano Tuner - it's a beautiful and powerful film set in the 1800's in colonial BURMA, about a man who gets invited by the Queen of England to travel deep into the jungles of Burma into the Shan Province to fine tune a military man's piano which is crucial to the imperial design and the crown's strategic interests. And if he doesn't do it, the whole country could fall apart. In the long traditions of the classic films like Out of Africa, Atonement, Beyond Rangoon & Dr. Zhivago. I am so happy to say that 2012 ends with a BANG and MULBERRY becomes a reality!!!
