Meet Whitney Takata, KF Wieniawski Violin Competition Contestant. Hailed from Tokyo, Japan, Whitney currently studies at the Juilliard School. She is the main prize winner in several classical music competitions in Japan, and one of her most recent accolades is winning the gold medal in wind, strings, and percussion solo contest in Japan in 2019.

Meet: Konstancja Samochin, KF Wieniawski Violin Competition Contestant. Hailed from Lodz, Poland, Konstancja graduated from High school of music last summer. She has performed in many countries across Europe including Poland, Italy, Austra, Latavia, Slovenia, and Hungary as a concertmaster, soloist, and chamber musician.

Meet Clara Saitkoulov, KF Wieniawski Violin Competition Contestant. Clara lives in France, and this year, she received a full scholarship award to conduct master’s studies at Rice University in Texas. She has performed throughout the world in prestigious halls including Paris Philharmonic, Munich Philharmonic, Tel Aviv Opera, or Carnegie Hall to name a few. She gave dozens of performances as a soloist, orchestra, and chamber musician.

Meet Isac Park, KF Wieniawski Violin Competition Contestant. Isac currently studies at Stony Brook University on Long Island in NY. He is the first prize winner at the Crescendo International Music Competition in 2016 and at the New York International Music Competition in 2015. He performed the winner’s concert at the Carnegie Hall in 2015.

Meet Hana Mundiya, KF Wieniawski Violin Competition Contestant. Hana holds a Bachelor's Degree in Comparative Literature from Princeton University, and currently, she is pursuing her Master’s of Music degree at the Juilliard School. Meet KF Wieniawski Violin Contestant: Konrad Kowal from Chicago. Konrad is currently pursuing his Master’s of Music Degree at the Cleveland Institute of Music. He gave several solo recitals, made a radio appearance for WCPN Polish Radio performing Wieniawski and Paderewski, and has been the concertmaster in a few orchestras including DePaul Symphony Orchestra and Cleveland Institute of Music Symphony Orchestra.

We are thrilled to welcome these 12 talented young violinists who will compete in the first virtual Kosciuszko Foundation Wieniawski Violin Competition! The participants come from the USA, Poland, Ukraine, Russia, France, Japan, and the Philippines and will be performing the repertoire of such Polish composers as Wieniawski, Szymanowski, Bacewicz, Penderecki, Lutoslawski, and others. The Competition will take place on the weekend of November 21-22, 2020, and will be live-streamed on the KF YouTube channel.

Due to the ongoing uncertainty regarding the COVID-19 and its impact on organizing public events, the Kosciuszko Foundation has decided to hold its Wieniawski Violin Competition ONLINE. Each of the three stages of the Competition will be live-streamed on the KF YouTube channel. The Competition will be held, as initially planned, on the weekend of Nov. 21-22, 2020. Application deadline was extended to July 21. We look forward to seeing all the musical talent!

RIP to Krzysztof Penderecki (1933-2020), one of the greatest Polish composers and most influential figures in contemporary music; a passionate music educator and cultural ambassador. His compositions reached millions through celebrated film scores which included for Friedkin’s "The Exorcist", Kubrick’s "The Sining" and Lynch’s "Wild at Heart." Krzysztof Penderecki was an Honorary Trustee of the KF, he last visited the Foundation in December 2013. Our sincere condolences to Family and Friends.
