Wayne was the poster boy for the quintessential American, “Tall In The Saddle” Patriotic hero. Be it War or Cowboy. As far as I know, he never played a bad guy.

His era of Patroitism and America is a far cry from what could be or is considered to be Patriotism and America today.

He was the honest, straight shooting good guy you could alway count on and trust to take care of business. His on screen image embodied all these elements. America was at a place at that time where hero’s like Wayne were needed. Venerated indeed.

I don’t know how much it was publically known about him not serving in the military during WW11, but I really don’t think it made a whole lot of difference whether he did or didn’t. It almost seems like he was needed here in the states instead of on the battlefield. He was the equivalent of the cheerleader for Uncle Sam and the war.effort

Today marks the 59th Anniversary of the release of The Sons of Katie Elder (1965).
This movie marked the return of John Wayne to work after having a cancerous lung and two ribs removed just four months earlier. He insisted on doing some of his own stunts to show the public that the illness hadn't slowed him down.
Co-star Dean Martin said of John Wayne, "Someone else would have laid around, feeling sorry for himself, for a year. But Duke, he just doesn't know how to be sick. He's recuperating the hard way. He's two loud speaking guys in one. Me, when people see me, they sometimes say, 'Oh, there goes Perry Como.' But there's only one John Wayne, and nobody makes any mistakes about that"

John Wayne, the Duke himself, is seen here in this classic photo, looking dapper in a tuxedo. He’s probably thinking, "Well, pilgrim, looks like I've wrangled another shiny award!" Standing next to him is a lady who seems thrilled to be part of the moment. Maybe she's thinking, "This is better than a showdown at high noon!" The award in Wayne's hand shines almost as brightly as his legendary career. One can only imagine him saying, "They told me it was for acting, but I reckon it’s for just being the toughest cowboy around!" Yee-haw, partner!

JOHN WAYNE SECRET TO THE PERFECT MARRIAGE
1. A wise man once said, 'Choose your battles wisely.' In marriage, that means agreeing with your wife even when you know she’s wrong
2. When she asks, 'What do you want for dinner?' I’ve learned the correct answer is always, 'Whatever you’re making, darling
3. When you say 'I do,' it’s not just for the wedding day. It’s for doing the dishes, taking out the trash, and all the rest."
4. In a marriage, being right is overrated. Being kind, now that’s the real challenge
5. Surprise your wife with romance often. A little kiss, a small gift, or just taking her side in an argument – it goes a long way
6. Finding a shared hobby can keep a marriage strong. Just make sure it’s something she likes, or you might be in for a rough ride
7. Quick apologies are the mark of a happy marriage.

There’s only one woman who has been my friend over the years and by that I mean a real friend, like a man would be. That woman is Maureen O’Hara. She’s big, l***y, and absolutely marvelous definitely my kind of woman. She’s a great guy. I’ve had many friends and I prefer the company of men. Except for Maureen O’Hara.” - John Wayne❤️❤💕

John Wayne and Dean Martin starred in two notable films together: "Rio Bravo" (1959) and "The Sons of Katie Elder" (1965). As a devoted fan of John Wayne, I can say that their on-screen chemistry was remarkable, and their collaborations left a lasting impact on the Western genre.
"Rio Bravo" is considered a classic and is often hailed as one of the best Western films ever made. Directed by Howard Hawks, the movie showcased the talents of both Wayne and Martin, along with other notable actors like Ricky Nelson. It received critical acclaim and was a commercial success. In my opinion, "Rio Bravo" is a must-watch for any fan of John Wayne's work.
"The Sons of Katie Elder" reunited Wayne and Martin in a different Western setting. Although the film received mixed reviews upon its release, it has since gained a cult following. As far as I understood, the movie showcases Wayne and Martin's dynamic performances, adding depth and emotion to their characters. While it may not be the best John Wayne movie according to my personal taste, it still holds its own in the realm of Western cinema.

I consider them both to be icons of Old Hollywood, and I think that they each made important contributions to the film industry in their own way. John Wayne was a larger-than-life figure who embodied a certain kind of rugged masculinity, while Rock Hudson brought a unique combination of charm and vulnerability to his roles. Despite their different styles, they were both beloved by audiences around the world.

I read somewhere that John Wayne was once asked about his thoughts on Rock Hudson's homosexuality, and he reportedly replied, "I don't give a damn what he does in private. As long as he behaves himself in public." Whether or not this quote is accurate, it does suggest that John Wayne was not particularly concerned with Rock Hudson's personal life,
