The Caribbean Alert OUR PEOPLE, OUR PAPER, OUR VOICE! Discipline, Sacrifice, Commitment as we make a collective effort

By Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew
Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis

Healthcare has always been a cornerstone of my administration’s vision for a stronger, healthier, and more prosperous St. Kitts and Nevis. Unlike the neglect of the past, we are ensuring that healthcare is no longer an afterthought but a top priority for our people. Today, I am immensely proud to unveil the new and improved Joseph N. France General Hospital—a symbol of our unwavering commitment to delivering world-class medical care to every citizen and resident.

This transformation is not just about modernizing infrastructure; it is about putting people first—ensuring that our doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals have the resources they need to provide top-tier medical services. Our people deserve state-of-the-art facilities, advanced technology, and a system that prioritizes their well-being, and that is exactly what we are delivering.

For too long, healthcare was sidelined. The former administration failed to invest in the health and wellness of our nation. But today, we are changing that narrative. We are making bold, strategic investments to elevate our healthcare system—because a nation can only be truly strong when its people are healthy and cared for.

This hospital is a testament to progress, a beacon of hope, and a foundation for the future of medical excellence in our beloved Federation. Let this be a reminder that when leadership prioritizes people, transformative change is possible.

Together, we are building a healthier, stronger St. Kitts and Nevis—one where quality healthcare is not a privilege, but a right for all.

In a dramatic policy reversal, the United States has ceased providing $13 million in funding for the Kenya-led mission in Haiti—a collaborative operation designed to tackle the escalating gang violence that has destabilized the nation. The decision comes as the international force, comprising roughly 900 police and troops from Kenya, El Salvador, Jamaica, Guatemala, and Belize, continues its struggle against organized crime in one of the Western Hemisphere’s most troubled regions.
