I was at the river, hidden in the reeds, hoping to take photos of wildlife when I espied a man tenderly carrying his dog into the water and gently setting her down. The old dog seemed soothed and contented to be in the water and moved around using her front legs.
When she got into deeper water, the man lovingly scooped her into his arms again and brought her back to shallow waters and there they stood together in companionable quietude.
I approached the man as I was leaving and shared that I couldn't resist taking photos of him and his dog. I learned that the man's name is Tony and his 13-year-old dog is Maya, who slowly lost movement in her hind legs after an accident five years ago. Tony had inherited her from his son who went into the Marines 11 years ago, and he and Maya have been inseparable since that time. He likes to take her to the river where the water makes her light enough to move around easily on her own.
As Tony and I visited, Maya made her way over to me for greetings and quiet caresses. I gave Tony my number in case he would like to have photos of a candid moment between him and his Maya. I sent him these, and he sent me a very kind note.
Out of the river and back into the fray of everyday life I went, strengthened by the Grace I had witnessed.
The forever innocent smile of a puppy that won his human heart!

Every weekend, 93-year-old Bob Williams walks into his local dollar store in Long Grove, Iowa, and buys a box of Herseys. Not those small, regular-sized candy barsโ€ฆ but the really big ones.

Bob, however, typically doesnโ€™t enjoy them himself. He gives one to the cashier, and then the person waiting behind him in line. And then he walks the downtown area handing them out to everyone he seesโ€ฆ young, old, men, women, happy, sadโ€ฆeveryone. He has been doing this for the past 11 years and heโ€™s known as โ€œThe Candy Bar guy.โ€ Itโ€™s estimated that over the years, Bob has handed out about 6,000 chocolate bars.

So why does Bob do it? Because it puts a smile on everyoneโ€™s face. And THATโ€™S always worth it.

"This is a beautiful letter from Fiona Apple explaining to her fans why she must postpone a concert date. I am impressed at the way she was instantly able to make the decision to choose love over her career. Indeed, the world needs more of this. Enjoy the story...
It's 6pm on Friday, and I'm writing to a few thousand friends I have not met yet. I'm writing to ask them to change our plans and meet a little while later.
Here's the thing.
I have a dog, Janet, and she's been ill for about 2 years now, as a tumor has been idling in her chest, growing ever so slowly. She's almost 14 years old now. I got her when she was 4 months old. I was 21 then โ€” an adult, officially โ€” and she was my kid.
She is a pitbull, and was found in Echo Park, with a rope around her neck, and bites all over her ears and face.
She was the one the dogfighters use to puff up the confidence of the contenders.
She's almost 14 and I've never seen her start a fight, or bite, or even growl, so I can understand why they chose her for that awful role. She's a pacifist.
Janet has been the most consistent relationship of my adult life, and that is just a fact. We've lived in numerous houses, and joined a few makeshift families, but it's always really been just the two of us.
She slept in bed with me, her head on the pillow, and she accepted my hysterical, tearful face into her chest, with her paws around me, every time I was heartbroken, or spirit-broken, or just lost, and as years went by, she let me take the role of her child, as I fell asleep, with her chin resting above my head.
She was under the piano when I wrote songs, barked any time I tried to record anything, and she was in the studio with me, all the time we recorded the last album.
The last time I came back from tour, she was spry as ever, and she's used to me being gone for a few weeks, every 6 or 7 years.
She has Addison's Disease, which makes it more dangerous for her to travel, since she needs regular injections of Cortisol, because she reacts to stress and excitement without the physiological tools which keep most of us from literally panicking to death.
Despite all this, she's effortlessly joyful & playful, and only stopped acting like a puppy about 3 years ago. She is my best friend, and my mother, and my daughter, my benefactor, and she's the one who taught me what love is.
I can't come to South America. Not now. When I got back from the last leg of the US tour, there was a big, big difference.
She doesn't even want to go for walks anymore.
I know that she's not sad about aging or dying. Animals have a survival instinct, but a sense of mortality and vanity, they do not. That's why they are so much more present than people.
But I know she is coming close to the time where she will stop being a dog, and start instead to be part of everything. She'll be in the wind, and in the soil, and the snow, and in me, wherever I go.
I just can't leave her now, please understand. If I go away again, I'm afraid she'll die and I won't have the honor of singing her to sleep, of escorting her out.
Sometimes it takes me 20 minutes just to decide what socks to wear to bed.
But this decision is instant.
These are the choices we make, which define us. I will not be the woman who puts her career ahead of love & friendship.
I am the woman who stays home, baking Tilapia for my dearest, oldest friend. And helps her be comfortable & comforted & safe & important.
Many of us these days, we dread the death of a loved one. It is the ugly truth of Life that keeps us feeling terrified & alone. I wish we could also appreciate the time that lies right beside the end of time. I know that I will feel the most overwhelming knowledge of her, and of her life and of my love for her, in the last moments.
I need to do my damnedest, to be there for that.
Because it will be the most beautiful, the most intense, the most enriching experience of life I've ever known.
When she dies.
So I am staying home, and I am listening to her snore and wheeze, and I am revelling in the swampiest, most awful breath that ever emanated from an angel. And I'm asking for your blessing.
I'll be seeing you.
Love,
Fiona"

โ€œIn the last Quarter of Lifeโ€
A lot of us are in the last quarter of life and I share without politics, religion, race cards. Just gentle thoughts:
You know, time has a way of catching you off-guard about how quickly it travels.
It feels like just yesterday that I was young and ready to start adult-life. And in a way it feels like eons ago, and I wonder where the years have gone.
I know I lived them all.
I remember all my hopes and dreams. I remember the plans I made.
And suddenly, here I am in the last quarter.
How did I get here so fast?
Where have the years gone and where did my youth go?
I can recall looking at older people, thinking how long it will take for me to get where they are. That I am still in my youth, that I have many years ahead. At that time I could not even think of being where I am now.
And yet, here I am.
My friends are retired, they all have grey hair, they move much slower than they did and when I look at them, I see older people. Some are in a better and some a worse condition than me. But I see the big difference. They are no longer the youthful, carefree, full-of-life friends.
Just like me, age shows. And we are now the older people we used to look at and thought it was still a long way off.
I find that these days, taking a shower takes its toll on my breath and energy levels. And an afternoon nap is not just a treat, itโ€™s become a necessity. And if I donโ€™t, I find myself sleeping in the same chair I started reading or watching television in.
Now I have entered this new season of my life, totally unprepapred for the discomfort, aches and pains, loss of energy and strength and ability to do what I could, yet sometimes didnโ€™t. At least I know that, even though I am in the last quarter and I have no idea how long this quarter will be, when my time on earth is over, a new adventure awaits too.
Yes, I do have things I wish I I had never done. Yet so thankful for those I did. It is all in a lifetime.
And if you are not in the last quarter yet, I want to remind you that it comes faster than you could anticipate. Do the things you still want to do as soon as possible. Do not procrastinate. Life runs on fast legs.
Do today what you can.
There is no promise that we will all see the seasons of life. Live for today. For now.
Say the words to the ones you love. Often.
Hopefully some will appreciate the things you did for them. And if they donโ€™t, it is also okay.
Life is truly a gift. Just be happy. It is afterall your choice.
And remember that health is a treasure, not wealth, gold and silver, property or your bank balance.
You may think that going out is the best, but believe me โ€“ coming home is better.
You may forget names and that is okay, because some have already forgotten that they knew you.
The things you cared about previously, you may lose interest in.
If you fall asleep in your favourite chair, stay there.
Growing older is wonderful. It is comfortable. It is loaded with memories that you never grow tired of. It is an absolute treasure.
Look after yourself.

So here it is!!! My very very first Christmas tree at the age of 51. I was homeless 15 years on the streets of Fresno. Never have I considered getting a tree because I have no children but I finally decided to get one. It may not be a big fancy one but it's mine and I love it just the way it is. And I happened to snap this photo with my very first dog sitting right underneath it. This is Dexter a rescue dog. He's been with me about a month. I am grateful for every chance I get to share the goodness of God and what he is capable of doing in one's life in the Name of Jesus

A bookshop owner in Southampton, England has asked for help as he moves his library due to high rent and wants to move the books to the new location. The person is surprised by the presence of more than 250 young people, elderly, and special needs people who were also involved. They form a human chain where they take thousands of books and transfer them hand in hand from the old place to the new place at a distance of 500 feet. The job was done in just an hour.

Happy 102nd birthday to Agnes Keleti, the world's oldest living Olympic champion! The Holocaust survivor from Hungary won a total of ten gymnastics medals, including five golds, at the 1952 Helsinki Games and the 1956 Melbourne Games. Keleti survived WWII thanks to working as a maid under a false identity but many of her family members were among the 550,000 Hungarian Jews killed during the Holocaust. Following the war, she was able to return to gymnastics training and won her Olympic medals at the ages of 31 and 35. Today, the energetic centenarian still prefers to look forward, asserting: "The past? Letโ€™s talk about the future. Thatโ€™s what should be beautiful. The past is past but there is still a future."

This is a Tree that got hit by lightning and it exposed it's Vascular System. Nature is so complex.
A Treeโ€™s Vascular System carries water and minerals from the roots up to the leaves, and photosynthesized food back down to the rest of the tree.
Interesting fact: Trees have no Muscles (or Nervous System) so all of this movement is powered by turgor pressure, which is controlled by stomata in the leaves that open and close as needed.

Old and alone, I thought that a dog would fill my existence.
I found him street, dirty, hungry, I caressed him, he followed me without fear.
Now he is my dog, I am the owner of him.
I talk to him, he answers me by washing my hands.
"Fido tomorrow we won't have anything to eat, retirement is over, we'll have to wait!".
That blessed day arrives, in line, with the other retirees, the libretto shattered by time, tight in my hands, I wait my turn. Fido shakes happily.
He knows that today we will eat more and a little better.
It's already winter. My house is cold without fire. He is close and warms me. The beginning of spring finds us united thanking the sun, while from my heart, a prayer is born: โ€ฒโ€ฒ Thank you Lord for creating the dog "

Definitely captures my bookworm well!
I love how much she loves books - the majority of her spending is on books and now that she's older I love reading her recommendations.
She's very low key, painted her own nails, her best friend's 14-year-old sister did her hair etc so these pictures truly capture her essence.

Emanuele Grandi's moving poem dedicated to our four-legged friends.
"If you are afraid of having given me few caresses, you should know that I have not forgotten even one.
If you regret having scolded me even once, you should know that I don't even remember it.
If you think you've left me alone for too long, you should know that I've always been waiting for you.
If you are afraid of having spent little time with me, you should know that I, even that little, have enjoyed every moment.
If you think you've played little with me, you should know that I've never counted the times you threw the ball at me.
If you think I've forgotten about your perfume, you should know that even now I'm smelling it in the wind.
If you wanted to be reborn in another life, you should know that I would like to be your puppy in that one too.
If you are convinced that you have some flaws, you should know that for me you have been the perfect one.
If you believe that love can have an end, you should know that in my heart the place of love is infinite.
If you think you have regrets about me, you should know that I would not change a single second of the life I have spent with you.
If you think I no longer hear your voice when you call me, just entrust the sunset breeze with the task of bringing me your words.
If you think I can forget your face, you should know that I wanted to live alone to enjoy your look.
If you think I could have loved someone more than you, you should know that I have loved you more than myself.
If you think I would like a soft sofa, know that with you I would also have slept on the stones.
If you think I wanted more than you gave me, you should know that I've always felt
like the happiest puppy in the world.
If you have ever felt alone, you should know that I have never left my place next to you.
If you think my life has been short, you should know that I wouldn't have wanted to live a minute longer if I hadn't spent it by your side.
If you are afraid that I am no longer near you, know that as soon as you close your eyes I will fall asleep next to you.
If you think you have not made the right decision, you should know that I have always trusted you.
Always.โ€

One morning a husband returned after several hours of fishing and decided to take a nap. Although not familiar with the lake, his wife decided to take the boat out and go for a ride. She motored out a short distance, anchored, and began to read her book.
A short time later, along comes a game warden in his boat. He pulled up alongside the woman and said, โ€œGood morning Maโ€™am. What are you doing?โ€
โ€œReading a book,โ€ she replied, (thinking, โ€œIsnโ€™t that obvious?โ€)
โ€œYouโ€™re in a restricted fishing area,โ€ he informed her.
โ€œIโ€™m sorry officer, but Iโ€™m not fishing, Iโ€™m reading.โ€
โ€œYes, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment. Iโ€™ll have to take you in and write you up.โ€
โ€œIf you do that, Iโ€™ll have to charge you with sexual assault,โ€ said the woman.
โ€œBut I havenโ€™t even touched you,โ€ said the game warden.
โ€œThatโ€™s true, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment.โ€
โ€œHave a nice day maโ€™am,โ€ he said and he left.
MORAL: Never argue with a woman who reads. Itโ€™s likely she can also think.

12/10/2023

Last week, we took some friends out to a new restaurant, and noticed that the waiter who took our order carried a spoon in his shirt pocket. It seemed a little strange.
When the waiter brought our water and cutlery, I noticed he also had a spoon in his shirt pocket. Then I looked around and saw that all the staff had spoons in their pockets.
When the waiter came back to serve our soup I asked, "Why the spoon?" "Well, "he explained, "the restaurantโ€™s owners hired Andersen Consulting to revamp all our processes. After several months of analysis, they concluded that the spoon was the most frequently dropped piece of cutlery. It represents a drop frequency of approximately 3 spoons per table per hour. If our staff are better prepared, we can reduce the number of trips back to the kitchen and save 15 man-hours per shift."
As luck would have it, I dropped my spoon and he was able to replace it with his spare. "Iโ€™ll get another spoon next time I go to the kitchen instead of making an extra trip to get it right now." I was impressed.
I also noticed that there was a string hanging out of the waiterโ€™s zip on his trousers. Looking around, I noticed that all the waiters had the same string hanging from their flies. So before he walked off, I asked the waiter, "Excuse me, but can you tell me why you have that string right there?"
"Oh, certainly!" Then he lowered his voice. "Not everyone is so observant. That consulting firm I mentioned also found out that we can save time in the rest-room. By tying this string to the tip of you know what, we can pull it out without touching it and eliminate the need to wash our hands, shortening the time spent in the rest-room by 76.39 per cent."
I asked "After you get it out, how do you put it back?"
"Well," he whispered, "I donโ€™t know about the others, but I use the spoon."

"Today my husband was "CAUGHT IN THE ACT." He had a special request for dinner, so I stopped in our nearest grocery store to pick up the items needed. As I was looking for a spot in the express checkout, I noticed someone with a uniform similar to my husband's (common for our location). I saw this person weaving & bobbing as I was 2 people behind in line. His arm covering his face while stooped behind the register, I focused on the guy wondering "why's this guy hiding?" looked into their eyes & noticed it was my husband!!! He was TRYING TO HIDE from me!! As if I didn't already know his secret!! You see, the past 2 years my husband has made a point to give me a dozen roses each Friday. I've always known they came from the floral dept (one day a cashier congratulated me for getting roses every week while he and I were shopping together). When our eyes finally locked-still a couple people between us in line-we both had the biggest smiles on our faces, we laughed under our breath & didn't say a word to each other. He paid & left. The moral of the story is: after working a 12 hour shift on a hot Louisiana day he STILL found the energy to appreciate me. NO EXCUSES MADE! Men, it doesn't take much to show a woman your love~most of us love small gestures~Women, don't ever reject a man's efforts. It doesn't always have to be white linen tablecloths๐Ÿฅ‚& candles. Women: BE appreciativeโ€ขMen: BE consistent with staying consistent. If he brought me a rock every Friday, I'm starting a rock collection If he wants to sell ice cream, I'm scooping however he chooses to express his love, I'm accepting."
