Got a PhD in Psychology and taught it for 25 years, but always preferred being funny to anything else. As "The Kvetching Professor" he'll have you laughing, but learning at the same time.

While the centerpiece of is humorous, there is a serious message here. In America today, girls are getting encouragement but boys are not. Our society will do best when boys are encouraged as well.

This is an episode from season 3 in April. It's a goodie.

Girls are getting all kinds of encouragement, but boys are not, and yet I think our society will do b...

In this episode I take a lighthearted poke at some mottos of companies, colleges and countries. If you think about it, mottos are all around us. Many are quite inspiring, like Nike’s “Just Do It.” Others are a bit less so, like KFC’s “Finger-Lickin’ Good,” or the state of Michigan’s “If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you.” I mean let’s be honest. How many of us are truly seeking a pleasant peninsula? http://thekvetchingprofessor.libsyn.com/mottos

So for the professional in the comedy biz, his or her workweek is never done. Of course, for the rest of us, it’s fun to notice funny stuff and hear people laugh when we share it. Here is an amusing one! This episode of The Kvetching Professor originally aired in December of last year. If you missed it, check it out now! In this episode I think about what my autobiographical novel might be like as compared to Jack Kerouac’s classic On the Road. My book would be Staying Home, and rather than writing beautifully about the excitement of wild cross-country trips, I’d describe such thrills as going from the bedroom to the kitchen and back again. :) http://thekvetchingprofessor.libsyn.com/staying-home

After a shout-out to Jordan Peterson for his book, "12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos," I talk about my own proposal for a very different kind of self-help book. In going through the piles of stuff I’ve saved over the years, I came across the “little black book” I bought when I was 16 years old, so I could write in the names and phone numbers of girls I hoped I might go out with. Two Sides of Myself

I started “The Kvetching Professor” because I’ve always had two sides of myself vying for my attention. Well, it’s at least two sides. First, and starting when I was a child, there is my humor, which in my case is often kvetching. For those who don’t know, “kvetching” is a Yiddish word which kind of means to whine or complain. I mean, oy, do I have to really explain “kvetching” to people? (See, that was a kvetch, right there.)

And second is the “professor” part. School and education have always been important to me, and I kept going to school until I got my PhD at 26; and then I didn’t really leave school for another 28 years, since I taught psychology at a college for all that time. I’m also a songwriter-singer, specializing in humorous songs, and I’ve always had an enthusiastic audience for them.

While a professor, I started writing a humor column in the local paper, and have done that for nearly 35 years! When I read my columns out loud at a wonderful resort hotel, they went over great, so I figured, Why not do a podcast where I read them? So I did – and have now expanded that to include interviews and just letting my bizarre mind go its merry way as I talk.

My mission is to entertain and educate. My feeling is that a day without a laugh is like a savannah without a giraffe.
