Things have been quiet around here for a bit but now that spring has sprung, the bons temps are blooming again ⚜️🌸⁣

Boss Bloom Babe Ashley has been maneuvering some transitions of her own, but she’s been grateful to roll up her sleeves and play with some flowers over the last few weeks! ☺️⁣

Our next flower focus is LAVENDER! 💜⁣

According to some, “lavender” is synonymous with “LGBTQ+” though it’s unclear if it’s the plant or color being referred to. Historically, lavender was seen used as a derogatory term as it was used in ostracizing gay men as those with “a streak of lavender,” targeting gay federal employees during the “Lavender Scare,” and deeming le****ns the “Lavender Menace” as a means of barring them from assication with NOW 🙅‍♀️Over time, the q***r community grew to proudly embrace lavender 😍⁣

We 💚 composting! While most of the flowers are still stunning after an event, there are always the few that had a little too much fun 🥀 In keeping with BTB’s commitment to being as green as possible, Boss Bloom Babe Ashley uses the not wilted petals from any unusable flower for “ecofetti” and composts the rest at a community garden near her house ♻️ In fact, the flowers pictured in today and yesterday’s posts were grown in that garden 🌼 Think our compost contribution helped?! Just another way BTB’s floral recycling helps spread the floral love...and you never know when may be greeted with a shower of ecofetti!

This past week, I’ve found myself saying “life is wild” too many times to count. It can be mindblowing to trace back how you got from where you were to where you thought you’d be to where you are 🤯 In these moments, I often ground myself in this quote. While the journey might not make sense at the moment, seasons of life, people, places, and different opportunities always manage to come into your life at just the right time. Sometimes all you can do is sit back and enjoy the ride! ☀️

So, I see green carnations and picture boozy men in kilts handing out fake green carnations at St. Patty’s Day parades...anyone else? Well here’s a different image for ya {though I do love me a St. Patty’s Parade!} 🍀⁣

Back in 1892 at the opening of his comedy 𝘓𝘢𝘥𝘺 𝘞𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘦’𝘴 𝘍𝘢𝘯, Oscar Wilde requested that some of his friends don a green carnation on their lapel. Supposedly after this occasion, doing this signified that you were a man who loved other men 👨‍❤️‍👨⁣

Ever since I was little, this quote has lived on a magnet on my Maw Maw’s fridge. Clearly it has stuck with me, if I’m posting on social media about it. I’ve found myself going back to this often as I think about the future of Bons Temps Blooms🌟⁣

In case you didn’t know, there’s not exactly a guidebook of “How to Start a Floral Recycling Business.” {If you know of one, please send it my way!} So, a lot of this is me figuring it out as I go. While I am learning, I’m also bound to make mistakes...and I probably have already! This gal is her own biggest cheerleader and her own toughest critic, so finding a balance is delicate 😬⁣

I’m trying to remind myself that every F.A.I.L. is a “First Attempt In Learning.” Yes, that was probably on a classroom poster somewhere. Is my teacher showing? 👩‍🏫🍎⁣

I just want to say thank you to all of those who are cheering me on, brainstorming with me, helping make connections, and offering support in all the ways. I see you, I thank you for your patience, and I carry you in my heart daily. Oh, and don’t worry...I won’t forget you when my empire is in full bloom, promise! 🎉 The thank you party will be held at the Bons Temps Blooms shop with a glitter bar, margaritas, and snacks on me 💁🏻‍♀️ ⁣

Congratulations to the newlyweds, Matthew and Dylan, on their wedding this weekend, and thank you for recycling with Bons Temps Blooms! ♻️ The monstera leaves that laid across the tables were strung together to make monstera garlands, and the stunning florals were transformed into over 2️⃣5️⃣ petite arrangements. Y’all definitely brought smiles to the patients at St. Joseph’s Hospice this week...not to mention the ceramic vases handmade by one of the grooms {how sweet is that?!} and their use of eco-fetti {go gree, y’all!} definitely brought a smile to this Bloom Babe’s face! Smiles all around :0)⁣
