As human beings, we instinctively find ways to protect ourselves, it’s rooted in us to seek survival, even when we don’t consciously realize it. This drive for preservation became evident a few years ago when a natural, spontaneous protective mechanism began to evolve. To some this event may have seemed negative, but in reality, it highlighted the resilience and adaptability of humans in the face of challenges brought on by the tech age.

One of our oldest defense mechanisms, the protection offered by our social circles, has been diminished by technology. These circles, on a micro and macro scale, shielded us from outsiders. Technology has made the world open, enabling more connections, but it has also allowed bad actors to infiltrate our lives, with devastating consequences.

Gossip, as much as we might dislike it, has historically been one of our lines of defense. When it comes to dating, this kind of social knowledge-sharing can be vital. In 2022, we witnessed a spontaneous, collective response to frustrations in the dating world. It seemed overnight, hundreds of Facebook groups titled “Are We Dating The Same Guy?” appeared, with millions of members worldwide. The growth was organic, skyrocketing from zero to over 10 million members in just a couple of years.

Rather than condemning these groups, we should study the reasons behind their explosive growth. What we saw was a natural defense mechanism adapting to the tech age, a way for women to reclaim one of their first lines of protection. It was a brilliant, collective response to the vulnerabilities introduced by technology. Instead of dismissing this phenomenon, we should view it as a profound example of human resilience and ingenuity in the face of modern challenges.

Yes, I do recognize the destructive side, it was the first thing I noticed. However, I strive to think on multiple levels, considering various perceptions and perspectives. This allows me to focus on intent rather than solely relying on my own feelings. In life, it’s wise not to prioritize validating our own emotions over understanding the true intentions of others.

This perspective is what drives me to take what began on Facebook and use technology to help guide these communities, ensuring they stay true to their original purpose. If you want a front-row seat to see someone take a human instinct for safety and guide it back on track while giving it the tools it needs to thrive, then follow me, because me and my team are going to make it happen.

Domestic violence in the US saw a slight increase of 2% in 2023 compared to the previous year, with 784 more incidents reported ¹. This upward trend is concerning, especially considering that nearly 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience severe physical violence, sexual violence, and/or partner stalking ² ³.

It's worth noting that domestic violence rates vary significantly across states. Oklahoma, Kentucky, Missouri, Nevada, and Arizona have the highest rates of domestic violence, with Oklahoma ranking third in the nation for the number of women killed by men in single-victim, single-offender homicides ² ³.

- *Oklahoma*: 49.1% of women and 40.7% of men experience domestic violence
- *Kentucky*: 45.3% of women and 35.5% of men experience domestic violence
- *Missouri*: 41.8% of women and 35.2% of men experience domestic violence
- *Nevada*: 43.8% of women and 32.8% of men experience domestic violence
- *Arizona*: 42.6% of women and 33.4% of men experience domestic violence ³
