Napa Valley was not unfamiliar to this millennial, or at least not the city of Napa. The movie “The Parent Trap” was constantly playing on the Disney Channel back when I lived in Mexico as a child. I was familiar with Napa at an early age all thanks to Lindsay Lohan’s characters, Annie and Hallie, and their father Nick Parker, played by Dennis Quaid. I also knew some of the sights of San Francisco from watching The Princess Diaries. It has been a dream to live in the places where these movies take place. I never imagined in a million years that I would end up here.
What the movies do not tell you though is that living in California is expensive. Being an adult is expensive. But the high costs never scared me. My friends think that I am crazy for moving here from Texas. I have had Californians ask me “You moved, WHY?!” And my answer is simple, I am a young, single, pet-free, free-spirited woman who craves experiences, likes to live life to the fullest and seeks change. California offered me an opportunity to experience something new and with that, some of the most fun and best years of my life so far.
Lately, I’ve noticed that many of my millennial California friends are not as adventurous as me – and maybe more financially responsible than me. I was raised by a father who believes in having a good time while we are still here on this earth. I always think, “If I die tomorrow, I might as well die happy.”
I’ve had lunch at in St. Helena and had ice cream at St. Helena’s too. I had drinks at in Napa and ate a savory pie at , also in Napa. I guess what I am trying to say is, if you have a chance, my advice is you go out, eat the sandwich and you can have the drink.
I am excited to see what new places I will frequent and what new drinks I will try. Because as long as I’m alive, I plan to enjoy life.
