Join and Girls Rock! Grand Rapids at Studio Park tomorrow at 2pm for the Annual Girls Rock! Grand Rapids showcase.

Each year, campers join a band, write a song, and then play their songs in front of a live audience at the end of the week. That live audience is YOU! Come be part of our community and celebrate our students' joy, self-expression, and hard work. These kids seriously rock!

Attendance is free but donations are always welcome. We will also have merch (and our new guitar pedal!) for sale, and all proceeds support the activities and programs at GAAH.

another band highlight for today!

XTRA VOMIT!

this is socks first release for xtra vomit. johnny 5 the drum machine on drums. and sock singing and guitar. it was cool to see how much he believed in this project. from the beginning he always wanted it to get some more members. i even tried and failed miserably playing drums and trying to match the machine. when b. hill joined it became a whole new beast. some of the greatest, grossest, catchiest hardcore. and so many good split records came from this.

alright! its time to highlight the band that started it all for me.

DUCKBOMB

i cannot begin to explain how this cd affected my life. like so many people around here can say. there is just some magic in this disk.

for me i believe it was the summer before i became a freshman. to that point my extreme music was korn and slipknot. this was different. fast as possible. noisy. aggressive. and the guys that made it had gone to my school.

being able to see them at the bandshell literally 5 mins from fruitport high school made me believe i could do it too. aj, travis lind and i tried to learn every song to varying degrees of success. but we learned so much about DIY and putting your full self into music that is so ingrained in my psyche that i cant tell if it was always there or i just loved this band too much and i was totally brainwashed!!!

i consumed every track of every recording that came after. followed every band member change. sock was instrumental giving my starting bands a chance to play shows. and support to keep learning and keep going.

when i finally got the chance to play guitar for them. i grabbed on an never let go! and as stupid as it might look from the outside. just a small fruitport michigan punk band. this was the first moment i actually thought i was a musician. i got to play in that band with one of the best friends you could have casey and the only person who could possibly match my love for the band. and the person who introduced me to them.

we toured around the country. meeting the greatest people in the greatest bands. being the band that had more fun. losing money. losing tires. losing the hood of a car. and it was the absolute best thing ever. that i wouldnt give up for anything.

duckbomb is literally the best band ever.

i always feel weird being such a fan of a band i was in. its a strange feeling though i just always felt lucky to be able to play guitar with them.
