Today, we pause.

Memorial Day isn’t just a day off, it’s a day of reflection. A day to honor the courage of those who laid down their lives for our freedom. Their stories, their bravery, their sacrifice—none of it should ever be forgotten.

As a composer, it’s hard to put into words the depth of that sacrifice...but music can say what words often can’t. That’s why I wrote In Memoriam, a piece that weaves together fragments of our nation’s most familiar melodies (Taps, The Star-Spangled Banner, America the Beautiful) not as anthems, but as echoes. Gentle, solemn, and reverent.

In Memoriam was recently premiered, and today I want to share that performance as a humble offering of remembrance. To all who served and didn’t come home: this is for you. We remember.

HORYZIN Music composer Jimmy Pinzon had a wonderful time in a workshop with the Mountain Ridge High School Wind Ensemble this week, working on his piece “Duality”!
