A rainy Halloween seems to be in store for trick or treaters Thursday evening. A cold front is set to move through eastern Kentucky Thursday, departing early Friday, leading to a 75% chance of seeing rainfall ranging from 0.20 & 0.50 inches. Locally higher amounts will be possible with training storms.

Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron is proud to announce today, September 25, 2024, is the start of the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program implementation back into the Wayne County School System. This important program has been absent from our local schools for many years.

Wayne County Sheriff Office School Resource Deputy Tommy Spencer began this morning with 5th grade students at Monticello Elementary School. Deputy Spencer will instruct these students not just in drug/alcohol resistance but in several different areas including bullying, peer pressure and respect for oneself and others. Deputy Spencer is a certified D.A.R.E. instructor and will expand the implementation of this program throughout the school system this year and in the coming years while still carrying out his normal duties.

This D.A.R.E. program is just another way that Sheriff Catron and his staff continues to fight the drug epidemic here in Wayne County.

* Tornado Warning for...
Northwestern Wayne County in south central Kentucky...

* Until 545 PM EDT.

* At 518 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado
was located near Cabell, or 13 miles west of Monticello, moving
northeast at 45 mph.

HAZARD...Tornado and half dollar size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.

IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed.
Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree
damage is likely.

* This dangerous storm will be near...
Parnell around 525 PM EDT.
Monticello around 530 PM EDT.
