Monroe City Fire engine 2 and Monroe Township Fire engine 5 responding to a reported house fire on East Dunbar road near Barron Way. Crews arrived to find smoke Inside of the home with no active fire. Monroe Township Fire, Monroe City Fire, La Salle Fire, Ida Fire, Monroe County Sheriff's and MCA are all on scene.
U of M survival flight landing on I-75 near I-275 after a semi truck had his load of steel shift forward and went through the cab. The driver was reportedly impaled and pinned by the Steel. Firefighters from Frenchtown and Monroe Township worked for approximately a hour and a half to free the driver. The driver was transported by survival flight to a trauma center where his condition is unknown.
Frenchtown Fire stretching on a small fire in a mobile home on Maurice court in Frenchtown Villa. All occupants were out of the home when fire crews arrived. The fire is out and no injuries are reported.
Hit and Run accident this morning in the Newport Creek subdivision in Berlin Township. The driver fled the scene.

Fleeing & Eluding / Apprehension
Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough is reporting a vehicle pursuit and arrest of the driver, which both began and later ended in Monroe Township.
On Saturday October 12, 2024, at approximately 7:20PM, the Michigan State Police were conducting a Retail Fraud investigation, which occurred at a business in Frenchtown Township. The investigation led Troopers to a local address, where they located the offending vehicle, a gray in color Chevrolet Equinox. Upon Troopers attempting contact, the suspect vehicle fled. A driver and vehicle description was broadcasted to other responding police units in the area.
A short time later Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Austin Graham located the suspect vehicle traveling within Oakridge Estates Mobile Home Park in Monroe Township. Upon seeing the vehicle, the driver was identified as a subject wanted on numerous felony warrants, in addition to the Retail Fraud incident. When deputies attempted to stop the suspect vehicle, the driver failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated.
A lengthy pursuit began, which traveled throughout Monroe Township, LaSalle Township, and Ida Township, spanning nearly 45 minutes. The pursuit eventually led back to Monroe Township, as the suspect circled the area around S. Dixie Hwy. between Albain Rd. and E. Dunbar Rd. The suspect briefly headed north to the area of the Kroger Plaza at S. Monroe St. and Jones Ave, before heading back south to E. Dunbar Rd. and again into Oakridge Estates. Throughout the pursuit deputies had made several successful stop stick deployments, flattening all 4 tires and slowing the suspect vehicle. After several laps around Oakridge Estates while still trying to evade officers, the suspect vehicle eventually came to a stop in the 400 block of Laurel Drive, where he was taken into custody.

Monroe County Sheriff's were involved in a police chase that lasted around 45 minutes. The driver is now in custody. We are working on more details on this incident.
