Reflecting on one of my dad's last visits to the Twin Cities. His Father's Day gift that year was a ticket to come visit. Just him (sorry Momπ).
We ate steaks. We went to a soccer match. We laughed on rooftops about tiny desserts we were gonna split and couldn't pronounce.
It was perfect. Just me and my dad.
4 on-camera talent wardrobe and props options.
3 day shoot in rural WI.
2 weeks out.
1 commercial in the making.
The project success is wrapped up in the details.
The planning.
The organization.
The thinking...re-thinking...overthinking...all the thinking π€―
Looking through BTS photos has me reciting an unforgettable line from the Adam Sandler movie, Mr. Deeds.

Outside of the photographer, I think only 1 other person in the shot (far left), knew this photo was being taken.

No video project comes at ya problem-free. Like in this instance...
Re-scheduling a multi-day shoot, two days before Production β
Re-booking all cast, crew, meals and locations on short notice β
Underwater filming with 2 kid actors β
Clipping, trimming and pulling out some out of control weeds on location β
Filming around a basketball court directly behind our shot (no pun intended)β
In the words of Jay-Z...we had a few shy of "99 problems", yet found a solution for each one, on this past video/photo project π

From filming Culver's ButterBurgers, eaten later for lunch; to a tasty food marketing shoot, that hit the sweet tooth at wrap π¦·ππ½
It's the little things π
As a kid growing up on the outskirts Philly, school field trips led us through some of the historical landmarks in town. I recall several trips down those cobblestone streets. One of which was a walk inside the home our original flag maker, Betsy Ross.
As it waves I'm reminded of bravery, purity, perseverance and justice, as well as all of those who fought for, or gave their lives for our country from back then until now.
My first exposure to this industry was in 6th grade, playing the role of a radio talk show host. It was a comedic sketch called the "Rejection Connection", answering calls from down-and-out people experiencing silly, over-the-top moments with rejection.
I still recall how the writer/director of that sketch approached me with encouragement and patience, as it was my first go at this, in front of a live audience.
Years later, I enjoy any opportunity to work with child actors, helping bring out their best performances, and in some instances getting out of their way to let them jump back in the pool for Take 2!

As a kid, it was typically constant pleading with pool-goers to watch your next cannonball...maybe even give it a rating from 1 to 10 π€£
But, on that day, it was all eyes on them, take after take! π¬

It could be for marketing efforts now or in advance of next spring or summer βοΈ
In a few months we'll all be raking the leaves we wish we could've filmed π³ So, whether itβs lakeside, poolside, golf course yelling "foooore-side"...take in all the patios, rooftops and you-name-it summer-like things that are waiting to be filmed.

I can count on my mom for many-a-things (like keeping my FB posts alive and well). Appreciate all the loves and likes β€οΈππ½
But seriously...hard to sum up the words and emotions for how fortunate I am to have been raised by such an impactful mother!

What could you do with an extra $320 per minute? π°
One specific food plant was experiencing pump issues.
The current setup was wasting steam and wasting money. π€
A walkthrough at the plant from our client uncovered a better solution for their industrial client.
This specific food plant ended up saving roughly $320 per minute on the investment of an entirely new system.
Our client shared βthat new systems gonna pay itself off in a really short amount of time.β
Sure you can say βwe do onsite walkthroughsβ but maybe telling a little story as to why a walkthrough is immensely valuable to your client, could be the differentiator in your marketing efforts.
Losing $60,000 per hour of factory down time.
Caused by two valves that needed to be replaced.
Quick thinking and overnighting key products.

And the client's back up and running ππ½
You can settle for some typical, expected jargon that your company will "go the extra mile".

Their team quickly unboxed this bad-boy in hopes we could capture it before we wrapped.
One giant carton of rice later and we snagged a few more sweet looking visuals to help tell their story.

There really is something special about filming in someone's home π₯
The space brings its own personality and voice.
The home becomes another character in the story.

Iβm sure thereβs a mix of answers and opinions on this one π€·π»ββοΈ
Iβm no expert, but Iβve seen a trend of websites being redesigned or tweaked every 2-3 years (maybe even a touch longer). This has me thinking that those longer standing video pieces on the web, should probably follow suit for a refresh too.
A few (not all) things that could have changed in the last 2-3 years at your company:

The video project pictured here is a great example of when a company recently needed a refresh in their visual identity to compliment their upcoming website redesign/launch.
It was an evening of true inspiration last night at the Lifeworks annual celebration!
The organization supports over 3,000 people with disabilities and their families throughout the state of Minnesota.
We were moved by the stories shared as they highlighted the person-centered work happening right here in MN.
What meaningful work they are doing around advancing disability inclusion!!!

In-home shoots are some of my favorite days of filming π‘
I truly enjoy meeting new people. Hearing their stories. Seeing their environments.
The family pics, the kid-art on the fridge...all the things.
It can be a vulnerable place for a few strangers to show up and start filming your story.
It takes some quick creativity for our crew to pick-off our best spots to film, if we didn't scout the location prior.
From apprehensive hello's, to high-five goodbyes...it's one of my favorite transformations to see. π¬
Spent a few days inside a bank filming new video content.
A few scenes we created gave off some movie vibes like from that of The Big Short and The Wolf On Wall Street π¬

In college, I was cast as Theodore 'Laurie' Laurence in in the play, Little Women. π
Seems fitting that years later Iβm surrounded again by little women. π§πΌπ§πΌπ§πΌ
One getting their driving permit, one getting their back molars and one getting a layup in 4th grade Rec Basketball.
They teach me and one another something new on the regular! Excited to see where life takes each of these little women.
Itβs a joy and a juggling act, raising up and celebrating these little and no-so little lives today and everyday! π
So very happy for my friend, funny man and super talented go-to Director of Photography who tied the knot a few weeks back π
What a joyful ceremony. Rich in emotion with all the feels π₯°ππ followed by a fun celebration π of the new couple (and the π±)

Maybe all you wanted for Christmas was a healthy pregnancy and to hear some little one eventually call you "Dad." The miscarriages and unfortunate losses that can happen during pregnancy have wounded the souls of many individuals desiring to be a parent someday. Comparison can be an easy trap to slip into. I'm the furthest from a "handyman" or "Bob The Builder," so I can π― relate to my good friend Terrence in this dad story.
