nal character development and using the wit of the modern intelligent audience as a fourth wall of story evolution. Tuebor (too-AY-bohr), in its Latin conjugation, means “I will defend” and comes from the motto on the state flag of Michigan, where I was born and raised. Like most Midwesterners, the tenacious and loyal tendencies of Michiganders spill into everything they do, including independent film, striving to do their best and honoring those who forge their own ways. I believe great stories come from the absurdity of life, which means they come from anywhere and anyone (even those without an oceanic coast). But the claim of true independent spirit is just the first pledge. The second is to perpetually reach for a higher goal, an ever-greater achievement to delight filmmakers and audiences alike. The third pledge is to a united independent film community, wherever it may reside, filled with the talent and gumption to make great films that do more than let us simply be part of the audience. Films that may never see the light at the end of the theater but will still reach out to us. I'm dedicated to that mission, heart and soul. Join me in the journey.
