“The southern Great Lakes water temperatures are in the 50s and they’re in the 40s even in the coldest lake, Lake Superior. So that is relatively very warm air. We’re talking 30-40 degrees warmer than the air that’s blowing across them,” says meteorologist Sven Sundgaard.
