Christmas shopping was the theme of this 1977 TV spot WIX PIX produced with Ed Kane and Mid State Advertising. So step back 47 years to this commercial, shot on 16mm film, a few years before video tape production became available.
Let's go back 38 years to this trio of TV spots for the Cambria County Transit Authority. These all feature a local actor - Warren Gross. We worked with this talented and wonderful actor on many projects. Sadly, some years later, he took his own life. I think of him often.
Since it's almost Christmas, I thought we could look back 37 years to a Richland Mall Christmas commercial. Note, Dave Smith does the VO ... is Dave still around? What a smart guy.
Here's a 60-second look at Bedford County that I edited from raw footage I shot and had on file. Enjoy.
In this time of truly mean political TV commercials, I thought it would be nice to see how this advertising was once done. Conceived by Ed Kane of Mid State Advertising and shot/edited by WIX PIX here is a TV spot from 40 years ago...
In April, 2001, U.S. Bank changed it's name. WIX PIX was hired to do the TV introduction. Here are 2 spots from 23 years ago ... the animation was done by our excellent animator, Mike Podrasky.
Denny Miller, long-time co-worker at WIX PIX, recently had triple bypass heart surgery and is now at Crichton Rehab in Johnstown. In this TV spot, Denny is the guy in the basketball stands holding a MediPak. Best wishes, Den ... get well soon.
Come with me on a short trip down a walkway at the Portage RR Lemon House site ... breathe deep and relax. Ahhh.
20 years ago, Birthright called and asked us to produce a TV spot describing their services. I decided that, rather than writing a 30-second VO, I'd write a first-person story using Rotoscoping. This technique involves shooting live actors to tape, then having our animator copy EACH FRAME of the edited spot as a line drawing, a process that took several days.
We hired actors and voice talent and produced this effective piece which was used across the country.
I have been so blessed by having the career I had, where almost no two days were the same: one day shooting commercials in an amusement park, next 800 feet underground in Australia shooting installation of coal mine roof bolts. then shooting a music video, then a Hoss's TV spot, then helicopter footage over coal fields, then power plants across the country, then looking down at a beating heart during open heart surgery. I could go on and on and on!
Here is a clip from one of the 25 half-hour specials we did with Amy Bradley at Conemaugh, shot at the East Kentucky Science Center. Thanks to the WIX PIX team who, through the decades, helped create amazing programs!
Here's a spot we did for Idlewild Park with Elisco Advertising in Pittsburgh. One interesting point, the guy who played the grandfather was missing a finger on his right hand ... something we weren't aware of till the day of the shoot. You'll see what we did to hide that situation when you watch this spot from over 20 years ago.
