Puerto Rican bass-baritone David Guzmán is a frequent performer across the stages of the Midwest, including The Florentine Opera, Madison Opera, Milwaukee Opera Theatre, and the Lyric Opera of Chicago. The operatic stage has seen David as Leporello (Don Giovanni), Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte), Vodník (Rusalka), Bartolo/Antonio (Le nozze di Figaro), Melisso (Alcina), Truffaldin (Ariadne auf Naxos), Pi***la (Falstaff), and the Fifth Jew (Salome). Meanwhile, the concert stage has heard David in his all-Spanish recital To Children… and Grownups Too!, and in the bass solos from Bach’s cantatas BWV 4, BWV 12, and BWV 78.

Aside from his onstage pursuits, David is an avid language lover, recently focusing on Russian and his native Spanish. He also provides voice lessons, and vocal and language coaching to artists and enthusiasts from his Milwaukee, WI studio.

David Guzmán earned his graduate degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and his undergraduate degree from the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music.

✨ Welcoming back to the show Jill Anna Ponasik! ✨ Tune in at 4:30 Wednesday at 104.1 FM or online.

Jill Anna just completed her 16th season as artistic director of Milwaukee Opera Theatre, where she delights in connecting artists and audiences through musical storytelling. She worked on projects including RUSALKA (Milwaukee Opera Theatre & Danceworks), VIVA LA MAMMA (Florentine), CAMILLE'S RAINBOW (Milwaukee Opera Theatre), and a short animated opera about 3D bioprinting for Froedtert Hospital. She loves taking opera out in the wild and has staged pieces in parks, parking lots, ballrooms, breweries, churches, classrooms, gardens, lobbies, vintage stores, bookstores, masonic temples and, at least a few times a year, in theaters. She last had the pleasure of working with Dewey and Julianne on their creation: NIGHT OF THE LIVING OPERA. She holds degrees from the University of MN and Rice University.
