My mornings as a mom of two under four have been more complicated since the flu entered our home. If you haven’t noticed, this strain has been especially aggressive lately it doesn’t even feel like the typical flu. As a single parent, I’m doing the best I can managing care for both toddlers at the same time.

I didn’t expect both of them to get sick, but with twins and really any household with more than one child it’s always a fifty-fifty chance. Staying consistent with their medications has become a full-time routine on its own, carefully alternating doses and schedules to help get them back to feeling like themselves. It’s exhausting, but necessary, and I’m taking it one moment at a time.

People rarely talk about how emotionally difficult parenting becomes when your child is sick and there’s little you can do to make it better. As a parent of twins, there’s always the added worry that if one gets sick, the other may follow, making prevention a constant challenge rather than a guarantee.

Watching my oldest battle the flu has been especially hard because I understand the discomfort and pain he’s experiencing. In moments like this, you wish you could do more than comfort you wish you could carry the illness for them. It’s one of those quiet parts of parenting that reminds you how deeply love and helplessness can coexist.
