iRacing with Carl Dodson
What iRacing means to me. One question I get when I talk to people about iRacing is, “What did real life racing teach you that helps with iRacing?”. My answer is almost always the same it taught me it takes a team to be good. Don't get me wrong skill helps but others around you help make you better. Having a team of other drivers to talk things through, work on setups together, and also to laugh and have some fun while doing it makes it more fun with drivers on my team. I have now been racing since October 2017 after i got hurt racing in Real Life and still miss the RL racing but and glad to have iRacing as it really is as close as you can get to the real thing!
Now for those that have been on the fence about it, now is a great time in iRacing and it doesn't take $20,000 to run like real life. but there are some racing sim rigs like the one Denny runs.
I have slowly built mine up to total of just over $4,200, which includes GTR Simulator GTA-F ($539.99) , ClubSport Wheel Base V2.5 ($549.95), The CSL Elite Pedals LC ($229.95), Club Sport Steering Wheel GT ($399.95), 3x Samsung 32-inch Curved LED Monitor (Ultra- Slim Design ($309.00 each) and now i have a custom base being made by Kahl Kreations in Gulf Breeze Florida. for so height on my GTR sim rig to rise it up 12” to help an old man out getting in and out of it. LOL to run my iRacing I just went to BestBuy and bought a iBUYPOWER - Gaming Desktop - Intel Core i7-9700F - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER - 1TB HDD + 480GB Solid State Drive - Black ($1,499.99) Now i have added on over the last few year and upgraded as i learned more and needed a little better steering feel, brake and throttle feel. and it has helped me be smoother with drive line and being able to save my tires. Now Timmy Hill the won @ Texas in the iracing pro invitational series race with an old G27 Logitech.
The main thing to do is get in it and learn from the street stocks and progress up the ranks and you can figure out what you need as you go.
