There are choices to make for this week's . This week, we have been delivering corn to a local feed mill. We have choices for marketing the corn we produce on the farm. Many years, we sell corn to Smithfield Grain, where it is used to make feed for Smithfield hog farms. This year, it made more sense financially and logistically to sell it to Mule City Specialty Feeds, Inc in Benson. This mill produces a plethora of feeds for all types of livestock using many ingredients sourced from local farmers in the area. This feed mill has been in operation for over 60 years, providing bagged, bulk, and custom feed for sale and delivery. This brand is well known and synonymous with quality and the town of Benson. I snapped this picture of the unloading elevator while dumping corn one morning. As you can see, there are at least 12 different directions grains or ingredients can go from this one elevator. This is all controlled by an operator that selects which path the grain takes. A mistake can mix up ingredients and make a mess that can be hard to fix.

I believe all too often we dwell too much on the negative, the mistakes, and the challenges of agriculture while dismissing the good. We seldom talk about the "why." It is meeting season, and I have the opportunity to talk with a lot of people. We often talk about the new labor rules, rising costs, and the countless challenges we face. I had a conversation with a grower this week that is welcoming the next generation back to their farm. This grower, after discussing the challenges listed above, reminded me that there must be a benefit, a positive, or no one would keep farming. I agree wholeheartedly. I tell people all the time that there are much easier ways to make a living than farming, but there is no better way. I find myself focusing on challenges and putting out the fires that come up each day. I'm going to do a better job at accentuating the positives. While sharing the challenges is important, sharing successes and the wins is equally important. Until next week, face the challenges in your life with the successes in your mind. Leverage the good to overcome the struggle. God bless you! As always, .

Throwback ☺️ to 1970 and the amazing Lynn Palm on her 4-H project horse Mocha Dell. 😍🤩😍🤩

“I was mostly around Quarter Horses in my part of Florida and their motto was ‘the world’s most versatile breed,’ so that made me even more intrigued to try all things with Mocha Dell. She was my ‘guinea pig’—the one who started it all.... Her own patience and general athletic ability enabled me to eventually train her to be a beautiful English and Western pleasure horse, trail horse, Western horsemanship and equitation horse, endurance horse, jumping horse, driving horse, and trick riding horse. Little did I know that I was making an all-around horse…a true ‘Superhorse.’

“Learning how to trick ride was also really exciting for me—I was a wild, crazy, horse-loving girl and had to try everything. But the best part was that taking the time to bring my horse along slowly had paid off. She became a willing accomplice in anything I wanted to try, and eventually, a perfect schoolmaster for others to learn on.”

Learn more about Lynn Palm’s horsemanship philosophy and the mentors, both horse and human, who helped form it in her book FINDING YOUR SUPERHORSE, available now. ❤️🐴📖
