In 2019, I had an accident on my way to the airport. That was how I got this scar on my face. I was on my way to the airport because I had a job here in Lagos, and close to the airport in Abuja, I had an accident, and my life changed because I didn't know how I would live with a scar on my face. You know when you grow up and all your life you've been that beautiful girl; I've been beautiful since I was 5.

They rushed me to the hospital where student doctors did my stitching and of course it came up with a keloid. For someone like me who is very much into my aesthetics and general look... 'It's on my face'. Then there was lockdown, so I had all of COVID19 to wake up every day and see a scar on my face. Put on the camera to shoot a video and then there's a scar under my lip. It really did take me away from the cameras. I actually feel that is part of why I gave up.

I had to go through this whole process of accepting that this is my face. Interestingly, I think that's what the peace of the Lord did for me. Because I don't believe I was able to overcome that level of fear or pain by myself.

I had to go back to the drawing board and I had to do a lot of inner work. I had to remind myself that this is 'jara’ (extra) and the work is inside.

So I had to go inwards and ask ‘What do you have? What is it about you?’. So, I had to start developing the things about me that made me ‘me’ asides from my physical beauty.

Chude: Was it that, your dad was the breadwinner and it was a big blow to the family finances or were you and your mother carrying the burden so you guys could cope after he left?

Doyin: So, yeah my mum was working also and she has a very good job. My dad was also doing well and there’s money in the house coming from both parents. But they were very busy. My mum was always in and out of Germany and my dad was always in and out of Abuja and Lagos. So, we were with like nannies and at some point my mum was like ‘you know what, I need to focus on my children. At least when they grow to an extent then I can stop.’

Chude: What did she do?

Doyin: She quit her job. So it was now daddy’s money. And daddy’s money was sufficient at the time till daddy was no longer available.

Chude: What happened then?

Doyin: My mum was a bit emotional about it. I don’t blame her at the time. She wanted to keep up that same pace. She didn’t want us to feel the absence. She kept us in the same school with the ridiculous amount of school fees at the time. We will travel at the same rate that we do before. The money went down fast. I mean if it’s not coming in as much as it’s going out, it will come down at some point.

CHUDE: Have you been in a relationship before, in the past?

ILEBAYE: No

CHUDE: Why not? What’s going on?
Oh! I remember, this is a very private question. But you know I’m an interviewer so I have to ask. The first time you were in the house, one of the things that first came out was that you said you had never…how do I ask this question now? You had never known a man. I’m so embarrassed. Ok, that you’ve never had S*x before. That was something that came out of the house and people were shocked.

First and foremost, why did you share that? Or was it that you were just gisting in the house so you didn’t think about it deeply? Is there a particular significance to that? Is it a religion thing?

ILEBAYE: No, it’s nothing. It’s just we were gisting. There’s nothing really serious about it.

CHUDE: How can you be in this…a Gen Z. Somebody born after 1998, the Tiktok generation. What happened? Were your parents strict? What is going on?

ILEBAYE: My dad is strict sha. But I don’t know.

CHUDE: Are you surprised about how that became a topic on its own?

ILEBAYE: I’m just hearing that it even became a topic.

“I was shot at.

“It was a huge story, government officials, everybody reached out to me.

“Normally I would wake up about 3/4am. I will take a walk and pray for about 2 or 3 hours before I lead Next Level Prayers. I did that on the road because sometimes in the house, you can get tired, I want to sit down or something.
And I was just very close on this major street and this guy just said ‘Give me your phone.’ And when he said ‘give me your phone,’ you know, to be sincere I don’t know why I didnt give him my phone because if I could think, I will give him my phone. But what I responded with was just saying, ‘In the name of Jesus’ and he just shot at me, 5 minutes range.

“Kpoa! My ears tingled.

“I ran…as soon as he brought the gun, I just turned my back and started running. So when I got to 2/3 buildings beside, there was a security guy. So I said ‘did you hear the gunshot?’ Cause I wanted to be sure I was not dreaming. He said ‘oh! they heard the gunshot.’ Then I said ‘check my back, am I bleeding?’ Cause I thought maybe it was the adrenaline that knocked out the pain but he said I was not bleeding but my ears…in fact I had to go to the hospital cause my ears had this stretch, and they were like, well the bullets passed my ears and the vibration caused the stretch and that was what happened. It’s just another testimony of the faithfulness, the grace and the power of our Lord Jesus Christ at work” - Pastor Bolaji Idowu.

So the thing is, there was a rumor (that I was dating Apostle Johnson Suleman, and you know like, some blogs put out stuff there with no evidence or no anything and it kinda tarnishes people’s images or what you’re working on. It derails you from the image you’re trying to portray, whether it’s the real you or not. So you know, the whole rumor about - this was months back and I paid it no attention and I don’t need to explain to people every rumor they bring out about me. I don’t owe anyone. If you want to believe it, then that’s fine. I don’t actually do that and I don’t care.

“So it’s just so funny to me, my mum had left for the airport that evening. I took her to the airport and was stuck in traffic on my way back and I was just bored on Twitter and it was so funny to me, it was really funny. Looking back now, it’s nothing funny. So I didn’t know there were two Apostles. And this is my ignorance and silliness I am aware of now and I’m really deeply sorry. So I thought it was the ‘claimed’ person that they said I had something to do with so in my head I was like, ‘well if he’s the one it’d be really funny.’ Like we don’t know each other so ‘Hi, nice to meet you’. that was how I thought it was going to go in my head and I really thought people would find it funny, but no I was actually embarrassing and disrespecting a real man of God.” - Maria Chike Benjamin.

CHUDE: And of course, that leads to the question of Ada Ameh.

CHINEDU: Ah! Ada!

CHUDE: You know, yeah, you know I interviewed Ada before she passed and that was one of my… you know people ask me which episode - and this was before she passed, I’m like, it was Ada. It was a raw open-hearted deep conversation.

CHINEDU: Yes! Yes! I know Ada.

CHUDE: So for you, I only met her once but for you, you worked with her for years. What was it like when you heard that she had passed?

CHINEDU: * sighs* Chude it was very hard. You know, she…Ada was like a mother, you know!

CHUDE: Literally

CHINEDU: She took that character off the screen. As in, even outside production. I have met her severally outside, you know, that people will say ‘see your pikin’. You know that kind of a thing. So it was like losing a part of me. It was really… In fact, that was the least story or information or news I opted to hear.

That’s the biggest shock of our lives. That’s all of us…The Johnsons. It broke us…forever.

CHUDE: Charles said when he heard the news, you people actually considered, ‘do we even suspend this production?’

CHINEDU: Yes! Yes!

CHUDE: Seriously, you did?

CHINEDU: Well I thank God that at the end of the day? We were able to calm ourselves down, then thought about the way forward. You know, losing Ada on THe Johnsons, we didn’t even believe that the show would still go on. Because if you mention The Johnsons, you must mention ‘Emuakpor.’ It’s difficult to take away Ada, that is the character Emu from The Johnsons. But I don’t know how it happened…

“I was literally looking for how to edit my skit and bring the grand palava out. I was hustling, (saying) ‘editor correct this thing now wetin dey happen’. Someone just called me, ‘this blog don carry you oh!’
I said ‘Jesus!’ I went to check it, then, I saw myself, with Dino in the middle, and I saw ‘threesome’.
Next thing, my friends call came in, ‘Nonso, wetin dey happen?’

“I was shaking because I didn’t know how to explain to my mother that this thing is not true. How do you explain to people that you did not do it because they were not there with you.

“If you Google our name now, you see will a poster of I, Ashmusy and the man in the middle. You understand I want to travel out of the country; do not be thinking this one is ashawo. It was annoying.

“People were advising me not to comment on that blog. But because I know I am so innocent, I went to their DM and told them ‘God will punish you for this thing, you will die’. Later on, I summoned courage, “Nonso, you didn’t do this thing”. I don’t know the blogger, but whoever is behind it, ‘bring proof!’
So, when the person wanted to move to new gist, all my friends were like ‘bring proof oh’, ‘don’t go to another gist, because you cannot accuse me just to give your blog a little pop’. Maybe the blog was already dying, and they had to now bring something that would make it trend again. I didn’t like the idea of that, but then again good or bad publicity, it’s all publicity.

“Me? I have not seen him as a fan, like how my friend said she saw him and recorded him. If I see him, I’ll go and hold his leg. I have never met this man before, that is the honest truth.”

“Yes I was homeless.

“I wasn’t making money, as at that time, I wasn’t making money, it was only Banky and Wiz. I mean I was making money but it was not plenty. And I was also a young chap still trying to figure out life. So I’m like, I don’t have guidance, I’m just in these streets by myself, really. Even though, as much as I hate to blame whatever mistakes on that, but really I didn’t have no guidance, I didn’t have much money, the house I was staying, they rented it, so when the deal was off, I had to leave. You know, so I didn’t know what to do, I hit the streets and I’m not much of a going to be begging anybody for anything. Just still believed okay I have to keep going, I had just this Ford Explorer, my studio is my baby so I had my clothes, my shoes in the boot. I mean I didn’t have much because everything I had in the house was theirs. I could just drive to anybody’s house that’s my friend, anytime we finish work, I’ll always make sure I leave late.

“So after I finish doing work, which was mostly with Timaya, I’ll just go to my car and pass out, the next morning, I’ll probably pull up in the house like ‘Yo I want to use your bathroom, I only have my toothpaste and my brush then I’ll just go brush my teeth real quick. I was good vibes so everybody wanted me around you know. But only myself and one of my friends knew what I was going through but a lot of people didn’t know.

“So one day, Timaya found out and he actually cried, he felt so bad because I was always with them, I was always chilling, and he didn’t know what was going on. So when he found out, he was like, there’s this penthouse that he doesn’t use for anything, he now told me to move in there.” — Skales

Chude: President Bola Tinubu said when he was Governor of Lagos state (he has said this many times) that you frustrated his attempt at revenue (generation) and tried to cripple the Lagos (economy).

Baba: That’s absolute nonsense, No. I go by constitution. The constitution of Nigeria which is also enshrined recognized local government and then, for me to release funds to local governments, it has to be on the basis of 20 local governments. When you then add is it 37 or 27…whatever…to that. For me to be able to act constitutionally, the constitution of Nigeria had to change. For as long as that constitution did not change, then acting along not 20 local governments but 57 local governments is unconstitutional. So if he doesnt know that, then he doesn’t know anything.

Chude: But what do you say to that cha…

Baba: (intercepts) Soooo is that one that made him to have AlphaBeta?

Chude: (laughs) Right, so..

Baba: You didn’t answer that.

Chude: Yes Sir, it’s a question for President Tinubu to answer.

Baba: It’s because you said he then went to look for alternative funding. Alternative funding for who? for the state or for himself or for the state AND himself? That’s why I dropped that. It’s because you bring it up. I dont talk about the private life, I think the character matters to me.

Chude: You obviously think he’s not a person of good character and you said that in your letter. He’s now our President. Do you still think that and do you think he will succeed?

Baba: No, I won’t comment on that.

Chude: Right: Because you mentioned his character that’s why I wanted to ask.. do you still stand on what you said in the letter about his character?

Baba: No, you go and read. Read what I have written in my letters or in my book.

Chude: Was your heart broken when the whole thing between 9ice and Toni Payne happened?

ID Cabasa: Definitely! You know 9ice and I before the whole thing happened. I think that’s the way the devil works, he will isolate you. I think a lot of things happened that till date I can tell you 9ice cannot sit down and say this was what happened between Cabasa and I. Because if I was in the whole picture, what happened wouldn’t have happened.

It’s one of the most painful episodes in all of this. Because Seun was 9ice and 9ice was Seun. Both of them were good together. By the way, both of them are still very fine now. Ah! They’re ‘padis’ now. And thank God 9ice is married to a very beautiful soul again , Seun is doing fine and Zion too is doing very well. But that particular episode, I’ll give some insights today which probably I’ve never shared with anyone. When I heard that all of that stuff happened, I was angry, majorly with 9ice. Because I felt in my head that look, guy, you’re one of the luckiest that I see around here. This babe is your friend blah blah blah. When they told me the things that happened, none of these things had the potential of even causing (the problem).

— ID Cabasa.

“The people who take second wives know best why they take second wives. I don’t have any need for a second wife. For me, I mean I have a wife who has given me five sons, what am I going to look for a second wife for? No it’s not necessary. I will not condemn polygamy, no, because people have their reasons for what they do, right. I know a man who has one wife and she is a very proud woman and she just keeps denying him s*x you know, and so he went out, saw a pretty girl who sells petrol, fell in love with her or confessed love to her and went to her father, paid the bride price. Rented an apartment for her and she was making babies for him and then the wife kept preventing him from getting intimate with her and all that.

“One day, the man just left the house, came back with this woman and 3 sons, ‘This is my second wife o, so you have to cope with it.’ My wife just came in now, she’s a lawyer. I have lived with this woman for the past 53 years. Nobody has ever come in here to say ‘oh please Pete stop beating her, you will kill her’. No, why? I never saw my father beat my mother so I cannot say I learnt from my father how to beat mama, No, I did not. I love women a great deal and I respect them. If I see any young man beating up a woman, oh my God . You know, I just think you don’t qualify to be a man.

I chose a surrogate because…I’ve had couple of miscarriages you know and I just got tired.. of trying and I didn’t want to try.
I don’t have a husband, so I’m like I want a child for myself whether I have a husband or not. So, what other options could I have had? And I wanted it to be my child, my eggs. Thankfully, my eggs are good.

You live this life for yourself. It’s just you that matters. You can’t be the judge of your own life and my life at the same time, No! This is my own life, I’d hold it.

The truth is people don’t really care. If you care enough for yourself, that’s enough. Dont expect people to care. Everybody has their own problems to deal with. People have issues.

They’re just thinking of themselves…they’re just using their own frustrations and venting it out on you. Perhaps the courage you have, they don’t have… so just do you.

Because you’re listening to them, you’d sit on the same seat with them and that’s basically what they want.

— Ini Edo

Asa: Well contrary to public opinion, how people say, ‘Ah! Davido came to the Industry blah blah blah.’ Bro when David blew, we had no support.

I always say it, dami duro video, I spent a 100,000 naira. I gave one person at one TV station a 100,00 naira cause I could not let rid of relationships. I think it was petrol strike or something. Dami Duro video came out and there was like a strike for like Petrol or something. I gave one person at one TV station a 100,000 naira. That’s the only money I spent Payola wise for Dami Duro.
At the end of the day, stars just align.

Bizzle: People don’t understand it. People just think sometimes it’s about money. Sometimes, money works, but sometimes too, your star can just align. Everything will just be in your favor and it will work out for you. And sometimes, it’s not yet your time, people don’t get that. People don’t understand. All of you may come out at the same time but if God says, it’s not your time to blow, then its not.

My periods were irregular for about 2 months. So in 2 months I think I had about 4 periods and for me that was abnormal because they’re relatively on schedule and extremely painful. And when I say painful, I often describe it like somebody taking a barbed wire with like little sharp cuts and putting it in my stomach and just turning it. I would pass out out, wouldn’t be able to go to work, school, you know mentally emotionally, my hormones were all over the place and I was like this doesn’t feel normal, so let’s go find out what’s going on.

So I went for a test. Did an ultra sound and a TBS and they discovered that you know I had a cyst, I had two cysts. One on the two ovarian cysts. And they said look, ‘this is what we do, we try and just kinda eliminate everything till we get to the bottom of it and the bottom of it is typically…if we’re looking at endometriosis or something.

Now the thing with Endometriosis is, it’s quite hard to diagnose when you’re outside of the body. You kind of need to be looking in because you need to look up for the adhesions. I was scheduled for surgery to take care of the cysts because one of the cysts was torsion. It was twisted, meaning if it grows bigger or the weight you know gets a bit more or it burst, then we’re in trouble.

So I was staying far from him and got to the show past 9. I didn’t have ticket, and I didn’t buy. I’m like it’s my guy’s show, I’d just call them to come and pick me.

Na lie o my brother!

‘Otùtu fé pá mi (I was very cold).

I don dey ve###..I don already swear for hin manager that ‘una dey craze? I tell una say dey come.’ I have never been to this London before and I came when this cold is killing, when my hand dey shake and I dey for cold.

Na Asake come go give information say ‘my brother dey outside, make una go carry am come.’ E no won know the oyinbo wey dey there.

Na hin I look am. I was looking at him for about 15mins. I was already seeing him as a pop star. Even me, I couldn’t talk to him…everything don change, you can’t have access to him, you can’t talk, you have to calm down, na him go come talk to you.
