We 'Ced Youth Media

We 'Ced Youth Media Since 2011, We’Ced Youth Media has served the City of Merced and connected youth to their community and each other via the power of media.

A project of New America Media via the YouthWire collective, We’Ced is committed to changing the narrative around young people and challenging the status quo. We provide youth with training in journalism in order to uplift powerful stories through a hyper-local community health lens. Currently, We’Ced houses 15 youth reporters and mentors, publishes online year-round, and produces two publications per year.

With the end of the year approaching. Now would be a good time to do some self-reflecting of your own.
We'Ced Youth gives their perspectives on why it is important to self-reflect and how they do it.

"As protests break out on the campuses of universities across the country in support of Palestine, local organizers and students come together to make their thoughts known here in local Merced. Similar to many other students across the United States, such as on campuses at UC Berkeley, UC Irvine and Columbia University, UC Merced has set up camp with a clear message to the regents of California. “We’re not quitting until you divest from Israel.” While the encampment has been going on for a while, on May fifteenth, the UC Regents of California came to have a meeting on the campus of UC Merced for the first time ever in the history of the UC Regents."

Coming July 2024 🩷🗣️⚡️✊🏾 🌋🌈🪽

Overlooking Pink, We’Ced’s 12th issue publication, addresses the many struggles that we face under patriarchy. From external forces belittling our existence and the way present ourselves, to the internal battles we face about how we must be a “certain” way. Although patriarchy has existed for generations, does not mean it should continue to live. Each struggle to break away from the societal norm shows that it is possible to live in a world where we love ourselves, physically and mentally.

Get your free physical copy soon and this will be our first CALENDAR-like publication 🗓️🗓️🗒️

S/O to the courageous, powerful, We’Ced’s 12th year cohort youth who partook in this year’s publication 🙌🏾

R.I.P. Nex Benedict. The struggles q***r youth face, also happen here in our cities. We must come together to protect those who are being attacked, ignored, and feeling hopeless. How can we live knowing that marginalized people are being erased.

Join us at Applegate Park to hold a vigil. We will begin around 5pm and the event will last until sunset. We will be holding space for healing and mourning. Please bring some candles and flowers.
