Let’s just say a historical day for two people isn’t a good way to spend our Friday. We are postponing Melbourne’s Time Travelers’ Day until sometime after winter break in January (maybe the 17, however we aren’t exactly sure). Stay tuned for updates!

Hello everyone,

Back in the 1990s, Melbourne High started a “Walk of Fame” project where alumni could purchase tiles with their name engraved on it. Over a thousand tiles were created and laid on the ground. After a while, the tiles became chipped and cracked. As a historical society, we aim to preserve the history of our school and this landmark is at risk of being removed.

We are working to replace the tiles with new ones that will be installed on a wall. We are looking for people interested in purchasing a tile. Each will cost $50 and you can also add a logo to your engraved tile. The fundraiser hasn’t officially started yet (we are just getting numbers to see how many people are interested), but if you are thinking about getting a tile, please comment on this post or message us at [email protected] or 321-574-9214.

Mr. President: Before I get into the main “rant”, I’ll just say I did not see the “N” for the sign unfortunately, but I believe the property “custodian” has it (thankfully).

As asked, the can of worms I opened was mainly about the plaza building, but “Sarah” (that’s not the lady’s name, and I’m not telling it to anyone for her privacy) brought me a whole pallet of worm cans to create this post (and my next one).

I arrived to Roxy Cinema Grill to see what damage it suffered (which wasn’t much, the main sign on Babcock had some damage and the “N” plastic cover fell off the sign on RCG). I drove past “Sarah” and made my usual car scout of the property. I decided to drive back to ask her about the missing “N” cover. She told me she has pictures of all the damage and is sending it to the owners. We talked for a while, and she explained to me how she’s been harassed by so many people and even the police, and still stays on the property just to keep all the buildings safe. “Sarah” was so nice to me and she told me about how inside RCG is so bad that all the doors are now bolted shut because some people feel the need to make it their own “rage room” or something. There’s Badcock Furniture boxes that she now has to dispose of and RCG does not have a dumpster or else the place would probably be way worse. She said it’s gotten to the point where she doesn’t have the energy to care for the property now. I gave her one of our flyers and told her our plans to try and clean it up and make it into a museum. She said that I would have to go through the owners who live in Miami and one of two things could happen based on a series of events: ether they completely ignore us despite us trying to help everyone out, or say yes to get the problem of RCG off their hands (while still owning the building). “Sarah” said I was the nicest person she’s met in a while, and that just makes me so sad. In no way shape or form should anyone be mean to someone for someone to say “You’re the nicest person I’ve met in a while”. I’m not mad at anyone, just disappointed in people who can’t behave themselves and leave “Sarah” and RCG alone.

We will be attempting to send off the proposal to the owners next week, and the interaction between me and “Sarah” will be included in it. I don’t know what will happen after it, but if they say no, something is really wrong. I mean Green Gables wasn’t entirely the same situation, but it took the family a lot of convincing. My view is that if they cared about the property, this wouldn’t have happened. If it had not been for “Sarah”, maybe RCG wouldn’t even be standing because people would have destroyed the place to where the roof would have collapsed.

I hate to “rant” like this, but so few things can actually upset me, and this is unfortunately one of them. I made a friend today, and hopefully soon, a coworker or volunteer for the RCG museum. Have a dood night (or day) everyone.

PSA: Please, please, please look at the crosswalk before you turn left or right onto a different street. Our club president was crossing the street at Bulldog Blvd. and Babcock Street intersection and was walking to the school from the Florida Business Centre and was nearly hit by a Stellar Transportation van. Students nearly getting hit is becoming increasingly more common. Another student nearly avoided getting hit by a minivan while crossing over from the Starbucks at the flashing crosswalks. We cannot lose any students or have any injured because someone is too distracted looking at their phones or in a rush to catch the green light. Please drive safely everyone. (Picture for reference on where he was crossing and where the potential accident almost occurred. Purple arrow is the path our president took, red arrow is the van, and the green circle is approximately where the van almost hit him.)
