"I just came out and brought us a lot of energy," said Jase Holland, who finished 8-for-11 from the field and grabbed six of his eight boards in the pivotal second half. "I think that's what we needed. We've been having a lot of slow starts lately."

Brought off the bench in part because he got a technical foul late in a loss to Shaker Heights two nights earlier, Jase Holland put up 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds Friday as Medina knocked off the Mustangs 57-55 in Greater Cleveland Conference play.

Even in the offseason, it seems like something’s always going on with the Browns. Scott Petrak talks with Dave Chudowsky of WKYC-TV about the Browns’ new offensive coordinator Tommy Rees, Kevin Stefanski taking back playcalling duties and Myles Garrett being a finalist for his second straight Defensive Player of the Year award. The pair also recap last week’s divisional round of the playoffs and give their prediction for the conference championship games Sunday.

“It starts in the practice room, honestly,” Blue Devils senior Devin McCartin said. “Our coaches coach us for these hard moments, and we’ve got to take advantage of that. We can’t give up pins. That’s a big thing."

Mentor repeated as GCC champion by beating Brunswick 44-28 and then clinched the title outright with a 72-9 win over Euclid. The Blue Devils then lost to Medina on criteria after the match was tied at 35 due to the Bees finishing with four pins to Brunswick's three.

As Main Street Medina looks back on 2024, the organization now has a way to put real figures to numbers they'd assumed in the past from attendance to where people are coming from.

“We were down big in the second half,” said Colson Matheny, who scored a career-high 27 points for the Grizzlies. “We had a great talk in the locker room, and we got our guys ready to go. We responded in the second half. We cut it down to four, We didn’t come out on top, but I am proud of our guys for the way we were able to battle back.”

The Grizzlies had their own defensive lapses, but the Comets shot the lights out early as well.

"It's kind of a dream," Chris Hassinger said of having his two sons with him in Medina basketball. "Their age difference (Drew is 24 and Luke is 18) was too much for them to play together, but when I see them goofing around on the court after practice, it just makes my heart warm."

Chris Hassinger is an institution coaching the Bees. His son Drew assists him, and Luke is a senior point guard.

If a levy is passed, Trustee Chuck Johnson said the township would be able to increase its police force. He previously spoke about wanting to have two police officers on duty at all times, which is currently not the case for the Medina Township Police Department.

Medina Township voters can expect to see a 2.5-mill, continuous police levy on the May ballot to help fund the department's operations.

“You want to build an offense that has flexibility to be able to cater to any quarterback’s strengths,” Rees said. “That’s what we’re trying to build and we have to be malleable in our ability to shape the offense, to really highlight the strengths of that player. And I know we’re going to put a system together that’s able to do that.”
