Episode Synopsis:
After the “Amanda” travesty in the season opener and a successful therapy encounter with Dr. Abigail, Carl decides to have a go with black women again. The wonderful Latonya Black has his interest as does another beauty named Christine. Carl has found his sea legs with several dating options with harrowing results. Christine surprises Carl by inviting one of her dear friends who turns out to be Carl’s ex, Trisha who arrives with her husband Tony. Drama, shenanigans and repercussions ensue.

This scene is fictional and never happened as our series comically explores interracial relationships in the 21st century.
My real life daughter and son in law approved this script and were ORIGINALLY SLATED to act in this as themselves. Schedules intervened as Ajima and Patrick stepped in.

My idea for this series included casting a mixture of my actor pros with personal friends who are non pros.
One of my FAVORITE PEOPLE in the world in my CRAZY, sweet friend, the lovable CASSANDRA SANDERS.
In these scenes (one on camera and the other on the other end of a phone call with me), we see the CASSANDRA we all know and love.

I received a HIGH COMPLEMENT today from a brother who didn’t realize this was a CORE GOAL of what I was trying to do with TWO DEGREES.
Yes, the show REVOLVES around my character, but I wanted ALL MY CAST to have LOTS OF OPPORTUNITY to shine. Every episode, that occurs and I feel good about that.
So many of my talented friends came to play AND for little to no money…..

When we shot SEASON ONE of our show, we had ZERO DOUGH. Nothing. I didn’t KNOW DAPHNIQUE at the time but met her once on the set of her digital series “Stingers”. I called her and asked….she said yes and came in and did her thing!

I’ve known JB for a very long time. Always amiable with a great sense of humor. First time I called on JAMES BLACK was to PLAY PETER in the RESURRECTION SERVICES at @faithfulcentral 🙏🏿. There were a LOT OF WORDS for James to learn….in fact, it almost played like a SOLO SHOW with music. James killed that role AND he wasn’t a member of the church. He did it as a solid for me.
Years later, when I was looking for some brothers to play in our CIGAR LOUNGE scenes in TWO DEGREES, he came on and was hilarious.
Behind the scenes fact: THIS phone call you see in this scene was shot with RICHARD WHITEN on the other end of the call. When it came time to SHOOT RICHARDS end of the call, he was unavailable. So I moved JAMES to that position in the show (he was already in the episode) because JAMES’ middle name is RICHARD…..so when I call him “Dick”, it plays 🤣🤣🤣🤣

About 30 friends came out to support me to shoot the TWO DEGREES PILOT EPISODE, “DESSERT & DOWN FROM THERE”…..written by Carl Gilliard. Directed by Reggie Gaskins.
It was a long Saturday. Shelley Robertson (Ladonna) and I shot the kitchen scenes from Episode 102 that afternoon.
At 4:00, we started shooting Episode 101.
We shot the entire episode in about 4.5 hours at the home of Don FULLILOVE…..this whole idea started with an offer from DON to be my right hand, executive producer and technical guru to TWO DEGREES.
TWO DEGREES & TWICE MARRIED BROTHER: In 2020, I was inspired and lovingly URGED by my wife to PRODUCE, WRITE & STAR in my own series. It’s called TWO DEGREES. There’s so much to be thankful for as I reflect on this TWO SEASON, 12 episode and INDEPENDENTLY PRODUCED comedy series. The series is semi autobiographical. MOST OF THE CAST play themselves in this TWO DEGREES world. I am not married in the show even as my real life wife plays herself without the GILLIARD at the end of her name. Series also gives me the freedom to explore some of the themes discussed here in TWICE MARRIED BROTHER. POST DIVORCE Dating, marriage and affairs of the heart from the perspective of a man trying his best to be a Good Dude yet failing at every turn.
Here in this SHORT SCENE from EPISODE 204, “I Got The Funny”, my character gets caught with two women at the same venue at the same time!
The always amazing CHRISTINE HORN plays “Christine” who discovers my “other life” who happens to be Latonya, my real life wife who is NOT MY WIFE in the series.
@twodegreestheseries boasts a cast of 76 actors, most of whom are personal friends who graciously played in this series for FAR LESS than their usual rate

In this PERFECT SEASON FINALE of SEASON 2 of TWO DEGREES, our scene features my wife/NOT WIFE in the show, the reluctant brilliant actor, Latonya Gilliard with our real life daughter Jordan PATTERSON and the talented daughter of our ANGEL EP Ericka Nicole Malone, Alexia Faith Roberts (they’re sisters in our show) after the debacle of Episode 205 BONUS ADULTS. This scene is one of my favorites as writer MICHAEL WHALEY ties and connects TWO SEASONS into this creative 25 minute episode.

TWO DEGREES “Trailer Story” And My Fixation On Trailers: FULL DISCLOSURE. I am NOT an EDITOR, but over the past few years, I’ve taught myself how to edit A LITTLE.
Two Degrees needed a trailer. I went to a few editors I was acquainted with. Too expensive. PLUS, I had 6 episodes of a series that was all over the place. I needed an trailer that was under 1:30. Also? I hate BAD TRAILERS. Cutting trailers is a whole different art form.
So I went to FIVRR to give them a shot. I sent some cuts and full episodes to the guy who spoke almost NO ENGLISH.
He sent me PURE GARBAGE and I told him so. He begged me to give him another chance. I gave this diligent, but horrible “trailer editor” revision after revision. FINALLY, I looked at the last one and saw a way that I could cut and re arrange his cut.
THIS TRAILER was the end result. This isn’t a bad trailer. In fact, I think it’s pretty good and for the MOST PART, I cut this together…..video cuts, music, sound….some of of what MR FIVRR gave me remains….I just know I needed a trailer and my cut was “cleaner”.
Big ups to YOU WHO CUT GOOD TRAILERS.
