Did you know we do custom animations?! Animations are good for all sorts of topics, but they are ESPECIALLY beneficial for distributing information that may otherwise come off as boring. We can take a mundane Power Point presentation no one wants to look at and jazz it up to level 5 with more creativity and engaging elements!

This is the story of Joy's journey through cancer and the beacon of hope she finds at the Cancer Survivors Park. It would be easy to assume it's a story of pain and suffering...and parts of it are. But Joy would be quick to tell you that it's more of a story of hope and healing and love and faith. Joy is one of the strongest people I know going through one of the hardest things I can imagine. And through all of this, her actions and attitude beautifully exemplify her name to those around her - Joy.

Special thanks to in Greenville, SC for having us create this documentary film. Their park is truly one of a kind and plays such a huge role in brining hope and healing to everything touched by cancer in this community.

One of the things Joy is hopeful for the most is that her testimony is shard as far and as wide as possible. So if you can, share this video to spread awareness, inspire others, and join the community in uplifting those affected by cancer. Together, we can celebrate life, honor resilience, and support each other on the path to triumph over trials.

Hard to describe what making this film meant to us and everyone involved. Our friend, Joy Janke has such an incredible story of hope and...well, JOY. She's fought a tough battle for the last few years yet you wouldn't know it from the love and compassion she pumps into this world daily.

When we were given the opportunity earlier this year to create a documentary film for an Honor Flight Upstate SC event, we absolutely jumped at the chance. It isn't often that one gets to be a part of something so special. We're really proud of the film we created in partnership with Renewable Water Resources and we're so excited for you to see it (below!) as we honor our veterans this weekend.

Interviews are at the top of our favorite things to film. Not only do we get to be a part of documenting a meaningful story, but we get to help influence emotion simply by the way we set up a shot. Lighting, background, angles and so much more all play a huge role in helping guide the viewer through whatever story is being told. 1. Profit First - Mike Michalowicz
-Let's be real. Businesses only survive if they can profit. This book shows you how to profit FIRST without sacrificing the bottom line.

2. Twelve and a Half - Gary Vaynerchuk
-The key to success in your team and organization is easier than you think. Be nice to people. Show kindness in every way and you will get the most from your people. Heads up though if you read this. Gary is a GENIUS but does let the expletives fly.

3. Atomic Habits - James Clear
-If you want to change anything in your life, you have to form a new habit around it. This book teaches you how to not only build and maintain habits, but how to reward yourself in the process.

4. The One Thing - Gary Keller and Jay Papasan
-We all have a LOT going on. This book helps teach you how to narrow down your list and focus on the ONE thing you can complete with excellence. Once complete, you move on to the next thing, staying laser focused on it until it's complete.

5. Marketing Made Simple - Donald Miller
-Truthfully, this book often feels like a secret sauce that I want to keep close to the chest and not let others know about. But it will truly transform your business and how you view your products/services and how to make them look amazing to prospective customers.

As we finish off a week talking about gear, let's not forget the gear that brings a project home. Editing is at least half of the overall process of making a video. And just as it's important to maintain a sense of creativity while we're filming a video, it's equally important that our creativity carries through to the edit. Having an editing set-up appropriate for the job means that we'll have all the tools we need to get your video finished...quickly! Sliced Tomato Productions has a team of editors, all with custom editing stations that best fit their workflow and our projects. When I'm leading an edit, you'll find me right here with my M1 MacBook Pro Max. I. love. this. computer. It's one of the most powerful Apple computers available right now so when I connect it to a monitor, it feels just like a desktop. And then of course I can carry it wherever I want and edit on the go! Now lets see what it can do for YOUR video!

As we're spending the week focusing a little more on gear than usual, I wanted to share with you another of our favorite pieces of tech. The DJI Mavic Pro 2. For how small this thing is (will fit in one hand when collapsed!), it sure does pack a punch! Using drones is a perfect way of getting epic establishing shots, giving the viewer context as to where we are or where the story is going. But unless your story specifically requires it, you want to stay away from overuse of drone footage. Think of drone shots as adding seasoning to an already well cooked dish. Just enough will heighten the sensation of what you already have in front of you. Too much though and you could easily overpower things and ruin the dish.

We don't openly talk about gear too much around here, because gear isn't the end all be all of a good production. BUT, good gear does help. And it is fun to talk about. So this week we're sharing a bit about the gear we use day to day, starting with cameras. For the past few years, we've mainly used the Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema 4k. This is a camera that gives an image a very cinematic look. Color and skin tones are very soft and pleasing and you get a beautiful 10 bit uncompressed 4k image straight out of the camera. And as with other cinema cameras, it's modular so you can rig it out as big or as small as the job requires.

With the pivot we made in turning a 2-3 minute video into a 30 minute video, we now had a LOT of video for our client. But the 30 minute video was to be a one and done type of thing. No shelf life. At STP, we're always searching for how we can best utilize resources for maximum impact for our clients. In this scenario, we realized that we could take our 30 minute video and split it up into 4-5 mini videos that COULD have shelf life. These videos were perfect for online content and website posts. They could even be further split in the future for what we call micro content (more on this down the road). So at the end of the day, we were dealt unforeseen circumstances but ended up over delivering for our client! Fun when it works out like that!

In our last post, we talked about having to pivot with a client due to unforeseen, world altering circumstances (see the link in our bio for the full story). Many things changed with that project, first and foremost, the fact that we now needed to transition from doing a 2-3 minute video to a near 30 minute video. But with that change came some pretty good positives. We’ll share those with you in our next post!

In 2020, we began production with Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina on a promotional video featuring personal stories of hope and inspiration.
