The West Virginia Production Alliance (WVPA) was founded by WV film, TV, and media professionals with over 30-plus years of experience – in NY, L.A., and abroad. It began as an artist-and-investor coalition to provide leadership in a growing WV film economy, foster the production of in-state media, and accommodate out-of-state productions. The WVPA is an independent advocate for WV media productio
n in the community and the state government. WHAT ARE WE ABOUT? The WVPA mission, first and foremost, is to bring together those who desire to create media and those who desire to invest and profit from media, whether financially or through brand exposure as a business owner. The WVPA’s intentions are to build the community and infrastructure necessary to grow and maintain a sustainable media production economy in WV. Much like how New Mexico, Georgia, Louisiana, and even our neighboring states have built lucrative film industries and countless jobs, West Virginia aspires to do the same. Using our predecessors as examples… “If you build it, they will come.”
WHEN DO WE MEET? The WVPA meets monthly. Regular monthly meetings will begin again in the new year -- guest speakers and special presentations to be announced. Meetings primarily take place in the Eastern Panhandle; however, as the alliance grows statewide, opportunities to meet at different places around the state will develop. WHAT ARE OUR LONG-TERM GOALS? Many large and reputable media companies house productions in WV and boost the local economy tremendously. Unfortunately, that is only for the duration of that production. The primary intent of the WVPA is to foster consistent in-state productions, creating jobs throughout all stages (development, pre-production, production, post-production, distribution, and marketing) rather than being dependent on outside production companies alone. There is a higher demand for quality content than ever before. With the ease of VOD licensing, the WVPA supports the manufacturing of properties from within the state and the “exporting” of them globally. These in-state film productions, not only, supply work to WV media professionals when large studio productions are not shooting; but also, serve to showcase the state’s resources and workforce and attract more studio production.
