Hi, I’m Joanne owner and creator of The Crafty Cottage, Welcome and so happy you are here! Let me tell you a little about myself! I love, love, love to DIY and Upcycle, and create unique crafts and decor on a tight budget (mainly from items that I find around my home that would normally end up in the trash.) I love what I do.
I have been crafting and creating ever since I was a young girl! Art was my favorite subject in school and I was always earning some time of crafting badge in Girl Scouts, it was my favorite thing to do even then. I even became a Girl Scout leader when my daughters were little and I was always looking forward to the things they were making to earn their badges. I come from a long line of crafters and creatives in my family. Crafting is very therapeutic for me. Sometimes I just go into my crafty room and spend hours just going through ideas for things I want to make or something I might have seen on Pinterest.....All the ideas and never enough time to do it! 🤷♀️
Several years ago I quit smoking and needed something to keep my hands busy and keep my mind off of smoking so I took up crocheting again (my mom had taught me the basics when I was 13) I wasn’t really into it then so I didn’t make much with it. I am what some people like to call a hoarder!! LOL, Well there is some truth in that, I do hoard craft supplies and I’m always asking the hubby to save me the empty containers and boxes to make things with. I call it upcycling. Then somewhere along the way, I realized there were probably a lot of others out there who enjoy it as much as I do. I would post pictures of some of the items I had made in a few of the crafting groups I was in and people would go crazy over them. So that’s when I decided to start a page where I could share all of my ideas, photos of things I made and get feedback and just enjoy doing what I love. 💖💖
One of my favorite things about crafting and DIYing is that it’s so forgiving. I have made a ton of mistakes along the way, trust me I’m still not an expert(never will be) I just know I’m my own worst critic and sometimes I go a little overboard and mess up something that was already so pretty, but because, it's so forgiving, many times, our mistakes don’t even get noticed unless we point them out. No biggie we just continue on and let it be, it’s all part of being creative and taking ideas from your head and turning them into something real. That’s what drives me to keep creating and coming up with ideas or getting inspiration.
