Huge 7.6 earthquake in the Caribbean just now and it registered on the helicorder in South Mountains State Park. NOAA is evaluating the risk for tsunami but thankfully most of the US is shielded by Cuba and Mexico.
Precipitation aloft is finally starting to make its way to the surface in the North Carolina mountains. Some light snow showers and flurries cannot be ruled out during the late afternoon and early evening...
Tomorrow will be one of those days where the high temperature (around 50 degrees) will be reached shortly after lunch. Then we start to drop late afternoon and plummet tomorrow night.

At 9:15 pm, moisture back over the mountains is redeveloping and moving east. This is mostly light snow in the western tier of counties. The warm nose which surged in here around sunset is starting to retreat.
Accumulation from this may add 1/2 to 1 inch across western tier.

Light snow and flurries continue to overspread the area at 2 pm. Temperatures will continue to drop for the rest of the day. The heaviest precipitation rates will begin to impact the western tier counties of Polk, Rutherford, Burke and McDowell by late afternoon.

These storms could reach portions of Polk and Rutherford Counties after 8 am.
