Whiteboard video for AquaPro Painting and Waterproofing targeting Chick-fil-A operators. Drawings and motion graphics by Daniel Trumble. Voiceover by Donna Davis

This was the first whiteboard video we've done. The drawings were fun to do, and the "hand" animations were certainly challenging!

Geek Speak warning: If you're an AE editor who has used the Write-On effect before, then you may know that the effect does not translate well to nested comps. Biggest challenge was writing an expression that still allowed proper "write-on" tracking inside two levels of nested comps while also calculating the adjustments for scale and position changes of the comps themselves as well as the root layer. Might do a tutorial on that challenge eventually!

The biggest challenge is the balancing act between dramatic lighting and dark shadows while still showcasing the product in its truest colors. Our shoot was limited to a single small conference room for this testimonial interview. Although we were in a very tight space, we tried to make the best of it with a little creativity.

The conference room had two doors, so we shot from outside one door and opened the second door to allow a bit more openness. We used a blue gel on the back wall to make it appear to recede more - giving the illusion of a much larger space than the small room we were in.

Fun project, although we were crunched for time and had to shoot everything in under 4 hours! Thanks to Hope Ferguson Loeb for her typical top-notch work on hair/makeup, and to Elsa Sorenson Wehrenberg for her always-beautiful smile!

WHY DO WE DO THAT?

People often wonder why video and film people bang boards together at the beginning of some shots. Audio is sometimes recorded by a different device than the camera, and when using multiple cameras, the microphone may only be connected to one camera. When editing, we use the visual part of the clapboard to align with the sharp spike created by banging the clappers to ensure everything is in sync.
