26/12/2024

All the presents are unwrapped, the leftovers put away, and the farewells made to friends and loved ones. But when we wake up tomorrow and begin to get back into our routines, the great Good News of Christmas will still be just as real. Let’s celebrate the gift of God’s Son all the way till Christmas comes around again!

As Christians in the West, we have a "gathering" mentality. If we can just get them to our church service, our youth ministry, just somehow entice them onto our property...Of course, we have all seen a lot of good done in the lives of those who will come. IF they come. If they aren't willing to meet...

Please be in prayer for Magnolia as we get closer to the weekend of September 7th. Rather than despair that there is a drag show on the square on land donated by a church, or that we are having a parade celebrating sexual perversion and spiritual bo***ge, let’s pray for a powerful conviction of the Holy Spirit to wake up the church and save the sinner! Follow this page for upcoming info about prayer opportunities…

”Therefore those who were scattered went everywhere preaching the word. Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ to them. And the multitudes with one accord heeded the things spoken by Philip, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. For unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed; and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed. And there was great joy in that city.“
‭‭Acts‬ ‭8‬:‭4‬-‭8‬ NKJV

Philip preached Christ to them. The result? Miracles, freedom, joy, faith, and a city coming to Jesus. Christ hasn’t changed. Lord, help us to preach the same Christ that the first Church preached!

”“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.“
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭14‬-‭16‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Jesus is the light of the world, right? Yes, He is! But here He is telling us that WE are the light of the world. How? See, He uses the Church, His body, as His lamp. Jesus shines through us! He didn’t light us up just to hide us away. He has a plan to use you and me to light up all the dark places where we live, work, and play!

”And being let go, they went to their own companions and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said to them. So when they heard that, they raised their voice to God with one accord and said: “Lord, You are God, who made heaven and earth and the sea, and all that is in them, who by the mouth of Your servant David have said: ‘Why did the nations rage, And the people plot vain things? The kings of the earth took their stand, And the rulers were gathered together Against the Lord and against His Christ.’ “For truly against Your holy Servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together to do whatever Your hand and Your purpose determined before to be done. Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word, by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus.” And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.“
‭‭Acts‬ ‭4‬:‭23‬-‭31‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Quick Take:

They had their own companions. Everybody needs a support system, a circle of friends. Peter and John had homies.

They responded to mistreatment with prayer. They lifted their voices to God.

They stood on the Word. They prayed in line with the Word. They expected the Word. They spoke God’s Word back to him.

They did not ask for persecution to stop. They asked for boldness to preach the Gospel and for God to grant healing, signs, and wonders in Jesus name —which is what got them in trouble in the first place!

The whole place shook, the Holy Spirit filled them, and their prayer was answered. The received boldness to speak the Word!

”But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves, saying, “What shall we do to these men? For, indeed, that a notable miracle has been done through them is evident to all who dwell in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it. But so that it spreads no further among the people, let us severely threaten them, that from now on they speak to no man in this name.” So they called them and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John answered and said to them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.”“
‭‭Acts‬ ‭4‬:‭15‬-‭20‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

When the enemy can’t deny the work of God, he resorts to intimidation. Even when we have a testimony of God’s power and faithfulness, we can still feel the pressure to sit down and be quiet.
I love Peter and John’s answer. Should we obey God or man? We cannot help but tell the things which we have personally witnessed.
A couple of observations:
1) When we remember that we must give an account
before God concerning our obedience to His plan, we are not intimidated by man.
2) No one can take away your personal experience. When we have seen and heard God’s Word in action, we don’t settle for man-made restrictions. To quote Ravenhill, “The man with an experience of God is never at the mercy of a man with an argument.”

”Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus. And seeing the man who had been healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it. But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves, saying, “What shall we do to these men? For, indeed, that a notable miracle has been done through them is evident to all who dwell in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it. But so that it spreads no further among the people, let us severely threaten them, that from now on they speak to no man in this name.”“
‭‭Acts‬ ‭4‬:‭13‬-‭17‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Even when you can prove the truth of the Gospel, some will choose not to believe. Even when they know it’s true, some will choose to oppose it. Even when they can’t deny it, some will do all they can to silence the message of Jesus.
They knew that this crippled man was healed. They didn’t deny it. They just didn’t want anyone teaching or preaching in the name of Jesus.
Bet they hated what happened next…

”And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, “By what power or by what name have you done this?” Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders of Israel: If we this day are judged for a good deed done to a helpless man, by what means he has been made well, let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. This is the ‘stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’ Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus.“
‭‭Acts‬ ‭4‬:‭7‬-‭13‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

So much here! Peter stepped up and delivered one of the most powerful statements in the New Testament. Only in the name of Jesus can we find salvation. There is no other.
When we share the Gospel, it has to be about the death and resurrection of Jesus. Inviting people to church, talking about God or spiritually is not sharing the Gospel unless you share what Jesus has done for us.
I love that these were ignorant and unlearned men, yet they stumped the political and religious elites of their day. Why? Because they had been with Jesus. Not only had they been with Jesus, they were building the Kingdom in Jesus name and by His authority. That name is still just as powerful today!

”And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.“
‭‭Acts‬ ‭2‬:‭42‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Wow. I want to live like that. What a picture. They continued steadfastly in these things. Not half-heartedly. Not just for a little while. They continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine. That’s a commitment to study God’s word. They continued steadfastly in fellowship. They knew the importance of strong relationships with fellow believers. They continued steadfastly in the breaking of bread. This included the Lord’s Supper, but sometimes it was just supper. Who knew eating at church was so biblical?
They continued steadfastly in prayers. This was a praying church, which made it a powerful church.
Let’s take the first believers as our example!

”But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”“
‭‭Acts‬ ‭1‬:‭8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The power of the Holy Spirit is given to make us witnesses. Living proof. A million-watt sign of the truth of the Gospel. This witness is to expand from Jerusalem (home) to Judea (region) to Samaria (also region, but not your people) to the ends of the earth. This thing is made to multiply.

”Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.“
‭‭I Peter‬ ‭2‬:‭1‬-‭3‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

How are we supposed to feed on the Word? Like newborn babes. That sounds sweet till you have to keep a newborn fed! Every two hours those little bundles of joy want to eat, day and night. And if they have to wait, they cry like, well, babies.
There is a method to this madness. Babies have to grow a tremendous amount to survive and thrive.
I pray that you never stop being hungry for the milk of the Word!

”“To the angel of the church of Ephesus write, ‘These things says He who holds the seven stars in His right hand, who walks in the midst of the seven golden lampstands: “I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars; and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name’s sake and have not become weary. Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.“
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭2‬:‭1‬-‭5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Jesus gives this message to the Apostle John on the Isle of Patmos, asking him to write to the Ephesian church. This church looked nearly perfect on the outside. They had moral purity, sound doctrine, good works, and patient labor. But Jesus had one thing against them: They had left their first love.
What did He mean by this? A big clue comes in His remedy. Remember (look to the past), repent, and do the first works.
Ephesus was the center of a remarkable disciple-making explosion. In a span of two years, all of Asia Minor had heard the Gospel. The sorcerers burned their magic books and the idol industry went out of business. All the other churches in Revelation were planted out of the Ephesian church. Their first works were sacrificial soul-winning and Gospel pioneering.
Jesus here gives us a warning against resting in our righteousness. We must stir ourselves to go back to the Harvest. Let’s take it back to the street.

”Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my fellow workers in Christ Jesus, who risked their own necks for my life, to whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles. Likewise greet the church that is in their house. Greet my beloved Epaenetus, who is the firstfruits of Achaia to Christ.“
‭‭Romans‬ ‭16‬:‭3‬-‭5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Priscilla and Aquila are a two of my favorite Bible characters. We first meet this married couple in Corinth. They were Jewish tent makers from Rome. Paul goes to work with them, living in their house. Not only do they become disciples, they begin to minister together while maintaining their business. They travelled with Paul to Ephesus where Paul leaves them behind. There, they meet Apollos, who was a gifted teacher, though a new convert. Aquila
and Priscilla took him under their wing and taught him “more accurately“ about Jesus. Apollos went on to become a great minister in the early church.
Paul later returned to Ephesus and saw the greatest movement of the Gospel recorded in the New Testament. No doubt, Priscilla and Aquila planted seeds in this field that helped lay the foundation. During this great Ephesian campaign, the couple moved back to Rome. By the time Paul writes this letter to the Romans, they already had a church going in their house.
Aquila and Priscilla were a Christian couple. They were business owners. But they were also powerful workers in the Kingdom of God. They planted churches, mentored ministers, supported missionaries, and were missionaries themselves.
Never underestimate what God can do in the lives of ordinary men and women who dedicate themselves, their home, and their jobs to Christ!
