Meet The Team!

We are so excited to introduce our story for the 2025 edition of The Agriculturist, covering William Clark Green’s Cotton Fest. West Texas is built on two things: agriculture and community. Cotton Fest, founded by Texas Tech Davis College alumnus William Clark Green, is more than just a music festival. Through the High Cotton Relief Fund, alongside a golf tournament, silent auction, and live performances, the event raises crucial funds to help cotton farmers in need. With past and returning artists committed to sharing their stories, this piece will explore how Cotton Fest and its supporters—many of them Texas Tech alumni and Lubbock locals—are keeping West Texas traditions alive while making a lasting impact. It’s a movement that brings together farmers, musicians, and locals to support the very industry that fuels the High Plains. We can't wait to share our story about Cotton Fest, the importance of the High Cotton Relief Fund and highlight its benefits to the West Texas farming community.

Meet The Team!

The impact of the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources extends far beyond the 806. Across Texas, Red Raider “field stations” serve as living classrooms and laboratories—a concept our team explores at length in our story, which will be available in the 2025 edition of The Agriculturist. Join us as we trap bobwhite quail at the historic Pitchfork Ranch, wade into the spring-fed waters of the Llano River, and venture out into the pastures of the 7R and 3 Rivers ranches. Here at the Davis College, we know the power of learning by doing, and our external farms and ranches allow both faculty and students to put knowledge into action. Stay tuned for sneak peeks of this story—you won’t want to miss it!

Meet The Team!

The issue of water is one that West Texas residents have grown accustomed to wrestling with for the past decade. A combination of agricultural production, oil and gas drilling, and growing municipalities in our arid climate is putting a strain on the rapidly depleting Ogallala Aquifer. However, a solution may be closer than we think. Our story focuses on produced water and its potential to be a real solution for West Texas water scarcity. Produced water is a byproduct of the oil drilling process. The Texas Produced Water Consortium at Texas Tech has come together to research treatments and the possibility of using this high salinity water for good! Through the lenses of research, policy, and production, we can’t wait to share with you all the great things Texas Tech has been working on to ensure the future of West Texas agriculture!
