Today we celebrate the birthday of Doug Sahm, the grandfather of Texas music and one of the most influential musicians to ever take the Austin City Limits stage. Leader of the Sir Douglas Quintet and later of the Texas Tornados, Sahm was adept at blues, rock, country, Tex-Mex and pop, and was a living catalog of Texas music. Sahm created the Austin sound and even coined a fitting nickname for the scene: "Groover's Paradise."
