On the morning of June 30, 2025 multiple banners were hung over Interstate 64 in Louisville, KY. One banner in the Portland neighborhood read “NO WAR WITH IRAN” in both English and Farsi. A very clear antiwar message. Additional banners were set up further east reading “WE SAID NO KINGS”.

All of the banners included QR codes that linked to a document with call to actions: https://bit.ly/TakeactionLouisville2025

Juneteenth (June 19th) marks the day in 1865 when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, and enforced the end of slavery, freeing the last major group of enslaved African Americans. While the Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1863, freedom wasn’t a reality for all until this moment, over two years later.

Today, Juneteenth is a powerful celebration of African American freedom, resilience, and culture. It’s a day for joy, community gatherings, and honoring ancestors. But it’s also a vital time for reflection on the long journey from slavery, the ongoing fight for true equality and justice, and the enduring legacy of that history in America.

Here is some recommend reading to expand your understanding of this history and its modern day reverberating impacts:

- ‘Reconstruction, America’s Unfinished Revolution’ by Eric Forner (Either the full or abridged versions)
- ‘Black Reconstruction in America’ by W.E.B Du Bois
- ‘The Color of Law: A Forgotten History of How Our Government Segregated America’ by Richard Rothstein
- ‘White Rage: The Unspoken Truth of Our Racial Divide’ by Carol Anderson
- ‘The Sword and the Shield: The Revolutionary Lives of Malcom X and Martin Luther King Jr.’ by Peniel E. Joseph
- ‘From to Black Liberation’ by Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor

Juneteenth (June 19th) marks the day in 1865 when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, and enforced the end of slavery, freeing the last major group of enslaved African Americans. This second set of photos from NO KINGS DAY features many creative signs from the thousands of people who participated in the rally and march in downtown Louisville, KY. This set also includes the 'Hot Protest Summer' style from the previous set of photos.

With that said…

On June 14, 2025, thousands of people gathered in downtown Louisville at Metro Hall and Injustice Square for NO KINGS DAY. At one point, nearly every inch of space was occupied from the steps of Metro Hall to the Liberty St. side of the square, and everything in-between - including Jefferson St., LMPD presence was at a minimum. They blocked off Jefferson St. at 5th St. While maintaining surveillance via drones, rooftop cops, and likely disguised in the crowd, they never engaged with the protesters.

The day started with rain, but those in attendance were not deterred. Soon after the rain stopped, the crowd listened to several impassioned speakers and singers covering topics spanning the ‘Big Beautiful Bill’, ICE and immigration enforcement, Palestine and Israel, and much more. This was followed by a march of approximately 5,000 people throughout downtown Louisville. It is estimated that roughly 2000 people stayed back at Metro Hall and Injustice Square to continue community building.

When the march returned to Injustice Square, which took 30 minutes once the front of the march arrived, people rehydrated, mingled, and many headed back over to Metro Hall to listen to the open mic speakers. After a few more hours of speakers, with a few hundred people remaining, the organizers ended the rally after a long, hot, humid, yet rewarding day of mobilization of 7,000 - 9,000 people in possibly the largest single demonstration in Louisville, Ky history.

Supporters of the Raytheon 5 are calling on the community to show up in solidarity at Injustice Square in downtown Louisville on Monday, June 23. There will be a press conference at 8 AM before the trial begins inside the Hall of Justice building at 9 AM. People are then asked to either gather inside or outside at Injustice Square to show their support for those on trial.

The Raytheon 5 were arrested February 2024 and charged with trespassing on key infrastructure, and blocking the roadway to Raytheon and BAE Systems in South Louisville in protest of Israel’s genocide in Gaza. The companies make weapons and equipment that supports Israel’s war crimes in Gaza, Yemen, Iran and beyond.

Just want to express my appreciation for everyone who has been keeping up with our content. Since last Monday we’ve gained several hundred new followers across Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitch. Tiktok… there have been some. Engagement has been up across the board. Content, photos especially, is being shared more broadly than ever.

I also appreciate the words of support for the work I’ve been doing. Especially for my photography. It means a lot knowing that we are doing something that people see value in (i did not want to say appreciate again in the same paragraph 😅). The motivation is more important than ever at a time when I’m struggling to generate a livable income doing what I love as a career.

All that is to say thank you. 🙏🏻

Today was a busy day with the Louisville SURJ - (Showing Up for Racial Justice) press conference, connecting with local community activists and organizers, and spending extra time with my son. More photos and maybe some videos will be coming tomorrow. As I want to get back to a schedule where content is being posted in the morning and afternoons consistently, and not just late at night.
